 Au moment de la finale, que le titre de champion de France paraissait acquis à l'équipe de Bourgogne,mais, comme l'avouera plus tard Guy Roux, il ne manque vraiment pas grand-chose à Nîmes pour se hisser au niveau de la division 1. Et l'entame de cette finale confirme toute l'estime portée par le technicien bourguignon à cette formation de national 1. Les Nîmois en veulent beaucoup plus. Ils se jettent comme des affamés sur chaque ballon, devinant peut-être que la distance finira par faire l'affaire de leurs adversaires, plus aguerris, plus expérimentés, plus solides aussi.

 Dans la vie de Johan Cruyff, Paris tient une place importante. Ce n'est pas du tout, de notre part, affirmation gratuite puisée à la source d'un nationalisme exacerbé. Paris fut d'abord pour Cruyff l'occasion de confirmer un talent qui n'avait été jusque-là que révélé par la télévision — et rarement — au public français. C'était au printemps 1969, Benfica et Ajax s'étaient réciproquement battus sur leur propre terrain par 3 buts à 1 et l'U.E.F.A. avait décidé de faire jouer le match d'appui à Colombes. C'est la dernière fois que le vieux stade de Colombes, si lointain, si vétusté mais si cher au cœur des vieux sportifs parisiens, fit le plein parfait. Même les virages d'où la visibilité n'est pas bonne étaient remplis à ras bords de supporters portugais et hollandais. « Ah! le match d'appui contre Benfica, jamais je ne l'oublierai, se rappelle Johan. Savez-vous que je garde précieusement chez moi le numéro de présentation du journal l'Équipe qui avait publié une page entière en hollandais et une page en portugais. 

 Ce fut une aventure merveilleuse et exaltante, d'autant plus que nous gagnâmes le match par 3 buts à 1 avant d'aller en finale un peu plus tard. »

Paris, c'est aussi pour Johan le siège d'affaires qui marchent bien. Le champion hollandais a donné son nom à des articles fabriqués par le « Coq Sportif » et il vient régulièrement en France assurer la promotion des produits. Et puis, Paris... c'est Paris. « J'aime tout de Paris, dit Johan. L'ambiance, les magasins, les distractions. Et ma femme partage ce goût. » Paris, qui rêve de retrouver une grande équipe, a peut-être perdu une occasion unique d'engager Cruyff. C'est le genre d'erreur dont on ne retrouve jamais la clé.

  Trois jours après avoir éliminé Manchester City en demi-finale de la Coupe de la Ligue, Liverpool, ultra-réaliste, a sorti Manchester United (2-1) au 4e tour de la Coupe d'Angleterre. Entré en jeu, le Néerlandais Dirk Kuyt a offert la victoire aux Reds à la 88e minute du match. A défaut de briller en Premier League et d'être en mesure de remporter un dix-neuvième titre de champion, Liverpool mène grand train en coupes. Mercredi, les Reds ont sorti Manchester City en demi-finale retour de la Carling Cup (2-2). Samedi, ils se sont offert United au quatrième tour de la Coupe d'Angleterre au terme d'une rencontre qu'ils n'ont pas dominée. Leur mérite aura cependant été de mieux la terminer que les hommes de Sir Alex Ferguson. Possesseurs du ballon le plus clair du temps, les Red Devils n'en ont pas fait grand-chose. Dirk Kuyt a fini par les punir.

Entré en jeu à l'heure de jeu à la place de Jamie Carragher, le Néerlandais a trouvé la faille après une remise d'Andy Carroll et une double approximation de Patrice Evra et de David de Gea (2-1, 88e). Titularisé en lieu et place d'Anders Lindegaard, le portier espagnol n'a pas rassuré. Une fois de plus. Alors que MU n'est plus en course qu'en Premier League et en Europa League, on peut se faire du souci pour le temps de jeu du jeune gardien mancunien. Sur le premier but non plus, l'ancien de l'Atletico n'a pas brillé par son autorité. Au contraire de Daniel Agger, qui s'est imposé dans les airs (1-0, 21e). Mené au score, Manchester United a su répondre par l'intermédiaire de Park, bien servi par Rafael (1-1, 39e). Dominateurs, les Red Devils ont semblé sans inspiration sur la pelouse d'Anfield, où Patrice Evra a dû avoir les oreilles qui sifflent. Durant 90 minutes, l'international français a été hué par le public suite à l'affaire des insultes racistes de Luis Suarez et la suspension de ce dernier pour huit matches. Présent dans les tribunes, l'Uruguayen a dû apprécier l'épilogue. Sa suspension touchant à sa fin, il disputera les 8e de finale de la Coupe d'Angleterre. Pas Manchester.

  Taken at statistical face value, this appeared to be a pretty  ordinary  year. A semi-final line-up  of Manchester United, Arsenal,  Tottenham and Newcastle was a victory for the Cup's old guard. Of the two non-league teams that made it to the third round, Yeovil's presence was virtually taken as read, and Southport's defeat to Leyton Orient failed to hold many back pages. This being the FA Cup, drama was never far below the surface, and the top teams hogged almost all of it for diemselves. It was an uncharacteristically quiet Third Round, with Coventry providing the fireworks by scoring seven against Macclesfield. New kid on the block, Darren Huckerby, was too quick, and scored a hat-trick. The first hint of what was to come arrived with the fourth round draw. Manchester United v Liverpool dwarfed the other fifteen ties. With just a minute to go. United trailed to a goal from Michael Owen, but a late, late show from DwightYorke and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sent OldTrafford into a frenzy. It would be a fourth consecutive trophy-free year for the Merseysiders. The other big boys made steady progress. Tottenham put Wimbledon away in a replay - for the Dons life amongst the elite was coming to an end; the third tier and Milton Keynes awaited them. Spurs drew a tough one at Leeds in the fifth round. Tim Sherwood's goal forced a replay and Darren Anderton, in a rare spell away from the treatment room, and David Ginola ended the Yorkshire club's interest. Newcastle had been drawn at home in every round — although they only beat Blackburn in a replay at Ewood Park. They were particularly impressive in a 4-1 home win against Everton in the quarter-final; two goals from the excitable Georgian international Temuri Ketsbaia set them on their way.

Arsenal, after victories at Preston and Wolves, faced what looked a straightforward task against Sheffield United at Highbury. With quarter of an hour remaining, the Blades were standing toe to toe with the champions at 1-1. When Lee Morris fell injured, United keeper Alan Kelly kicked the ball into touch for him to receive treatment. Ray Parlour attempted to restart the game in the now customary manner by throwing the ball back to his opponents. Most players had moved towards the Arsenal half, but not Marc Overmars.The Gunners' winger stole the ball, dashed down the wing and squared for the now incoming Kanu to slot home. The match took minutes to restart, while the understandable storm of protest was brought under control. The referee was powerless to disallow the goal, as Arsenal had broken an unwritten code rather than an official rule. Overmars excused himself by claiming not to have known Kelly's kick into touch was deliberate. Curiously, he was in a minority of one. Arsene Wenger's offer to replay the game was sporting, fair and accepted. The sight of Overmars, never likely to be a candidate for Players' Player of the Year at any club, opening the scoring stuck in everyone's throat, but Arsenal repeated their 2-1 victory and the episode finished with almost everyone's honour intact. Kanu managed a less controversial effort in the next round, which was enough to see off Derby and take Arsenal into the last four. Manchester United's quarter-final was a less straightforward affair. They hosted Chelsea who, despite playing a man short for fifty minutes after Di Matteo was sent off, held out for a goalless draw. Scholes evened up the numbers late on with a red card, but the game was niggly rather than full-blooded. Having made life difficult for themselves, United's assured, professional display at Stamford Bridge saw them run out 2-0 winners with both goals coming from Dwight Yorke.

The semi-final draw matched Arsenal and Man United, so Newcastle faced Spurs at Old Trafford with both sensing an opportunity.The tie pitted the wits ofTottenham's David Ginola against his former club, and much was expected of die Frenchman after goals in each of die diree previous rounds. At Old Trafford Alan Shearer proved that flair is no substitute for reliability, striking twice in extra time to send Newcastle into their thirteenth final. The first match between the top two finished scoreless, but was no tepid affair. The Gunners' Nelson Vivas had been sent off after elbowing Nicky Butt. Roy Keane was left cursing his luck after a marginal offside decision had denied him a winner. His misfortune was football's gain as it ensured a scintillating replay. The teams returned to Villa Park only three days later, as United had an appointment in Europe the week after. After a high-octane start, a trademark David Beckham swirler from twenty yards gave Seaman no chance. The goal seemed to redouble both team's efforts, and the game flowed from end to end but without a clear chance worthy of the name. With just over twenty minutes remaining, Arsenal drew level in fortunate circumstances. Dennis Bergkamp's effort was taken away from Peter Schmeichel by a deflection off Dutch international team-mate Jaap Stam. The game had turned in an instant and for the rest of normal time the momentum was with the Gunners. Nicolas Anelka appeared to have put Arsenal in front but his strike was chalked off. On seventy-four minutes Roy Keane was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the heart looked to have been ripped out of United. In injury time, Ray Parlour's surge into the box was checked by Phil Neville's lunge, and Arsenal had won a penalty.

In retrospect, to choose a Dutchman for such an important spot-kick may have been Arsenal's undoing. Holland's international record in shoot-outs is as woeful as England's. Bergkamp's penalty was by no means appalling, but it lacked pace, height and direction! Schmeichel guessed right and his massive frame easily diverted the ball round his left-hand post. A game that looked to have been moving inexorably into Arsenal's grasp suddenly lurched back towards United. With the game on a knife edge, it looked increasingly likely to be settled either by a mistake or a moment of individual brilliance. On 109 minutes, the moment duly arrived. Vieira's tired pass was horribly misplaced and rolled into the path of Ryan Giggs. Although just in his own half, Giggs' momentum carried him thirty yards before any Arsenal player could react.

Ask any Premiership defender in the last dozen years what confrontation he feared more than any odier, and most would instantly recall the sight of Ryan Giggs bearing down on them at full tilt. Even so, the Welsh winger on this occasion was faced with one of the most settled and parsimonious defences in the country. He weaved through them as if they were a pub team, leaving Tony Adams a prostrate spectator as he fired past Seaman into the roof of die net. If one moment defined the FA Cup in the nineties, this was it. It won United the tie and powered them to a record fifteenth final. Unfortunately for Alan Shearer, United carried on where Arsenal had left off the previous year. Not even the loss of Roy Keane through injury inside ten minutes could turn the match Newcastle's way. Within two minutes of the Irishman's departure, his replacement, Teddy Sheringham put United one-up, and they sealed a comfortable victory eight minutes into the second half. Nikos Dabizas fluffed a clearance and Sheringham's pass set up Paul Scholes to fire past Steve Harper. United's tenth Cup had been won at a canter.

 Barcelona will be without Seydou Keita, who is away on African Cup of Nations duty with Mali. Pep Guardiola's side also have three players who have long-term injuries; Ibrahim Afellay and Andreu Fontas are both out with ligament injuries, while David Villa is sidelined for the foreseeable future with a broken leg. Pedro returned from injury to feature in the 4-1 victory over Malaga at the weekend, but it is unlikely the Spaniard will oust Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi, or Alexis Sanchez from Guardiola's preferred front three. 

 Jose Mourinho's visitors go into the match with a 2-1 deficit from the first leg but the Real Madrid coach could opt for the same formation, with three midfielders and three attackers, albeit with a more positive gameplan than in the first match. Pepe was left out of the squad for the victory over Athletic Bilbao because of a suspected calf injury and did not train on Monday so it is unlikely that the Portugal international will be fit. There are suspicions that Mourinho may be removing the defender from the limelight for a short period, after the outcry against his cynical stamp on Messi in Wednesday's first leg. Lassana Diarra and Esteban Granero did not train on Monday either, but it is likely the former will be fit enough to come into the three-man midfield. Sergio Ramos also missed the session, but this was due to personal reasons and he is expected to play. Sami Khedira is unavailable, though, after being ruled out for a month with an ankle injury.

 Stiles heading for Middlesbrough and Crerand joined the back-room staff of United in the summer of 1971, but there was no prospect of a fresh generation coming. The once-fabled youth programme was no longer producing hungry and talented teenagers desperate to play in the first team. United made no significant signings, either. An air of lassitude hung about Old Trafford. The shining jewel in the side had long been George Best. With 18 goals he finished as the club's top scorer in 1970/71, just as he had in the three seasons previously, but his rackety lifestyle was beginning to catch up with him. During that season he had more run-ins with Busby and in January he was suspended for two weeks for missing training repeatedly. He was also fined £250 by the FA for turning up over an hour late at another disciplinary hearing. Best, finally, was growing weary of carrying the team largely on his own shoulders and he was less and less inclined to hide his dissatisfaction. A fiercely proud man, he grew increasingly frustrated to see his team, which had once been the greatest in Europe, drift into mediocrity.

But Busby had more than Best to worry about. Once again he faced the task of finding and appointing his own successor and, not for the first time he took upon himself the task of shaping the club's future. Top of his list for the United manager's job was fock Stein, who as Celtic boss had beaten him to the European Cup by a year. Busby used the ex-Celt, Pat Crerand, as his emissary to Stein, and for a while it appeared that United had their man. Stein met Busby, and the pair agreed a deal - but Stein had second thoughts and pulled out. Busby was bitter at what he perceived as a betrayal. He muttered that Stein had expressed interest in the United job merely as a bargaining tool to jack up his salary with Celtic. But that does not ring true with Stein's usual, highly principled way of conducting business. He was no less a stickler than Busby himself when it came to acting with honour and bringing dignity to the often-murky trade of football club management. It is more likely that Stein had a presentiment that he would never truly be manager of Manchester United while Busby remained at the club in an official capacity.

Chelsea's thoughtful manager, Dave Sexton, was also highly regarded by Busby. But Sexton appeared unwilling to move north. Busby finally found somebody prepared to take on the most difficult job in football. A little further down Busby's list of names was the former West Ham wing-half Frank O'Farrell who had impressed many observers by winning the Second Division Championship with Leicester City. He knew how gigantic his task was at Old Trafford, but he had the ambition to take it on and he accepted the offer. O'Farrell arrived at Old Trafford well aware of how much he had to do. The job of rebuilding the team would take years rather than weeks or months, the dressing room was populated by disgruntled old pros who had seen and done it all, and in addition there were the increasingly zany antics of Best to cope with. In short. United were doing a good impression of a football club that refused to be managed and, to make matters worse for O'Farrell, the board showed no sign that they were prepared to be patient in allowing the new man time to turn the ship around. Despite all that, O'Farrell began the job as he ended it - fired with enthusiasm - as the old football joke goes. On his first day in charge he said, 'Manchester United has rubbed off on me. I feel its glamour already. I feel, too, a great need to help the club back to its famed and feared reputation.' And for a while it looked like the team might live up to his brave words. United flew out of the blocks for the start of the 1971/72 season and O'Farrell seemed to have worked a miracle as his rejuvenated team raced to the top of the table. By the New Year they were five points clear of the field and odds-on to pick up their first Championship since 1967. Alas, the honeymoon ended in bitter recrimination as United went 11 matches without a win going into the spring, at one point enduring a spree of seven straight defeats. At least O'Farrell reacted decisively, lashing out £200,000 to bring in the Forest winger Ian Storey-Moore and £i 25,000 on centre-half Martin Buchan from Aberdeen. The new signings helped to halt the slide as United finished the 1971/72 season in eighth place, for the third year on the trot. United's league form might have been inconsistent, but at least it was consistently inconsistent.

  Cela faisait trois ans d'affilée que le PSG prenait le train des demi-finales européennes, Parme, quant à lui, dans le même temps, allait toujours plus loin en parvenant à chaque fois en finale. Le choc avait donc de quoi faire frémir, bien que les Parisiens, qui se sont offerts la dépouille du Real de Madrid (1993 et 1994) puis celle de Barcelone (1995), ne soient plus du genre à rougir d'émotion comme de jeunes puceaux lorsqu'il s'agit de conquérir l'Europe à la hussarde. Ils le démontrèrent d'ailleurs avec vigueur, là-bas en Italie, dans l'indifférence glacée d'un petit stade parmesan insensible, semblait-t-il, aux efforts des uns et des autres. Rapidement privée du génie créateur de Zola, son maître à jouer, l'équipe de Parme paraissait orpheline, inconstante, parfois même un tantinet fébrile. En tout cas, très loin de la valeur qu'on veut bien lui reconnaître.

 Au-delà de ses cinq points d'avance sur le Barça, le Real Madrid surfe en 2012 sur une vague de résultats en tous points exceptionnels. Toutes les stats sont celles d'une équipe à laquelle seul le titre peut être promis. Si ça dure... Les rotatives sont prêtes à s'enflammer. Si le Real Madrid domine Majorque ce soir (coup d'envoi à 20 heures), il aura provisoirement huit points d'avance sur le tout-puissant FC Barcelone. Qu'importe si le Barça sera en mesure de revenir à cinq points dimanche face au Betis, le chiffre exercera de lui-même son petit effet et renforcera l'hypothèse d'une possible passation de pouvoir en Liga. Si, d'ailleurs, on passe en revue tous les clignotants du Real en ce moment, c'est un vert éclatant qui scintille.

  Ce ne fut pas le match de l’année hier soir au stade de la Rosaleda à Malaga, mais le Real Madrid a réussi à marquer un but plein d’opportunisme par le biais de Karim Benzema qui venait de remplacer quelques minutes auparavant Gonzalo Higuain, peu en verve hier soir. 

 Tout réussi au buteur français car sur le but il peut remercier le gardien argentin Willy Caballero qui laisse passer entre ses bras et entre ses jambes la frappe molle et plein axe de l’ex lyonnais. Sur l’action du but on notera la très bonne passe décisive de l’allemand Ozil, et le très bon contre appel de Marcelo plein axe qui destabilise la défense du cxlub de Toulalan. Le Real Madrid poussif hier soir, s’est par la suite contenté de gérer le résultat en gardant au maximum la balle mais ne poussant pas jusqu’au bout ses offensives. Si Karim Benzema brille de  mille feu en ce moment, il faut aussi dire que la star du club Cristiano Ronaldo n’est que l’ombre de lui même. Depuis trois match il rate tout ce qu’il entreprend, fait les mauvais choix, essaye de faire la différence tout seul pour rattraper une action manquée au préalable et de fait oublie des partenaires mieux placés, et surtout ne marque pas de buts décisifs. Il s’était énervé samedi soir contre Grenade de ne marquer que le dernier but ( qui compte pour du beurre), Cristiano Ronaldo, qui n’a pas assisté à la cérémonie Fifa ballon d’or car il se doutait sans doute qu’il perdrait face à son rival Messi, n’est pas au mieux de sa forme. Espérons qu’il retrouve son meilleur niveau très prochainement, car d’importantes joutes internationales et nationnales attendent le Real Madrid, à commencer par un possible Real Barça en coupe du Roi le 21 janvier.

 Le jury du Ballon d'Or a consacré Messi pour la troisième année consécutive face à la concurrence de son partenaire du Barça Xavi et du Portugais du Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo. «J'ai souvent entendu parler ces dernières années d'un nouveau Maradona mais lorsqu'on parle de Lionel Messi, le joueur est à la hauteur du battage médiatique. Il a un talent incroyable et un manière unique de dribbler à laquelle personne ne peut s'attendre», reconnaissait Diego Maradona juste après la coupe du monde 2010 lorsqu'il avait eu le petit génie argentin sous ses ordres de sélectionneur. Adoubé par son idôle d'enfance, Lionel Messi marche - voire sprinte - dans les pas d'El Pibe de Oro et a déjà écrit - à seulement 24 ans  - certaines des plus belles pages de l'histoire du football mondial. Si seul un titre de champion du monde manque à son palmarès, l'attaquant du FC Barcelone a tout gagné avec son club formateur : trois Ligue des champions, deux coupes du monde des clubs, cinq championnats d'Espagne... 

 Ce fils d'ouvrier métallurgiste, devenu une icône planétaire, complète chaque année son tableau de chasse, riche aussi d'une médaille d'or olympique à Pékin en 2008, du titre de joueur de l'année de la Fifa (2009) et de trois trophées du meilleur joueur de la Liga, le championnat espagnol. Avec ce Ballon d'or Fifa 2011, Lionel Messi porte donc son capital à trois récompenses majeures. Comme ses aînés avant lui, Cruyff, Platini et Van Basten, il marque cette décennie de son empreinte. Il devient au passage le second joueur, après Michel Platini, à gagner ce trophée pour la troisième fois d'affilée. Passé un peu à travers son match dimanche face à l'Espanyol (1-1) , le génial gaucher pensait peut-être déjà à ce titre qui rend hommage à un exercice 2011 exceptionnel : 70 matches, 59 buts et 37 passes décisives qui lui ont offert un titre de champion d'Espagne et une Ligue des Champions dont il finit meilleur buteur. Et comme pour combler son bonheur, c'est, sans surprise, Pep Guardiola son entraîneur espagnol du FC Barcelone qui a été désigné par la FIFA meilleur entraîneur de l’année 2011.  L''Espanyol reçoit le FC Barcelone avec pas mal de joueurs absents. Walter Pandiani est toujours incertain et continue de se battre contre une blessure musculaire.. Javi Lopez pourrait être absent jusqu'à la semaine prochaine à cause d'un bleu sur son tibia gauche et  Juan Albin est toujours forfait. Il y a également quelques inquiétudes concernant l'état de forme de Raul Baena. 

Côté positif, notons le retour du gardien Carlos Kameni qui s'est entraîné après avoir eu un problème aux ischios-jambiers. Pep Guardiola, le coach du Barça, n'a seulement que deux problèmes concernant les blessés.  Ibrahim Afellay et David Villa sont des absents de longue date et ne seront pas disponibles avant un long moment. Victor Valdes et Andres Iniesta ont repris l'entraînement jeudi.     Lors de leur premier match de 2011 en Liga, les joueurs de Barcelona se sont imposés face à Levante 2-1 au Camp Nou, avec notamment un doublé de Pedro. Les géants catalans ont inscrit plus du double de buts que l'Espanyol cette saison en Championnat. Les hommes de Pep Gardiola en ont marqué 50 contre 10 seulement pour leur voisin.

Grâce à son succès à l'Atalanta (2-0), l'AC Milan conserve la première place acquise juste avant la trêve, avec le même nombre de points que la Juventus, victorieuse à Lecce (1-0). L'Udinese a dominé Cesena (4-1). Du trio de tête, l'AC Milan semblait avoir le plus à perdre, dimanche après-midi. L'équipe de Massimiliano Allegri a finalement profité de cette 17e journée pour confirmer son nouveau statut de leader et lancer parfaitement son année 2012. Passés en tête juste avant la trêve, après les matches en retard de la 1re journée et le nul entre la Juventus et l'Udinese (0-0), les Milanais ont infligé à l'Atalanta Bergame (2-0) sa première défaite à domicile cette saison et restent donc leaders avec le même nombre de points que la Juve (34), mais une meilleure différence de buts (+19 contre +16) et surtout une victoire de plus. Un symbole, après la défaite subie début octobre à Turin (2-0), leur dernière en date.

 Après avoir égaré deux points contre Wolverhampton (1-1), Arsenal s’est repris à l’Emirates Stadium en remportant le derby londonien l’opposant aux Queens Park Rangers (1-0). Un succès qui permet à la formation d’Arsène Wenger de rester en bonne posture dans la course à la C1. Les Gunners connaissaient toutefois du retard à l’allumage à l’image des interventions nécessaires de Szczesny pour empêcher Bothroyd (9e) puis Wright-Philips (10e) d’ouvrir la marque. Une fois ces frayeurs passées, Arsenal parvenait à prendre le jeu à son compte. L’ensemble de ses assauts reposait sur Van Persie, inhabituellement maladroit à la finition (16e, 23e, 26e, 31e). Des échecs qui offraient du répit à Cerny, le portier des Rangers. Ce dernier devait toutefois se montrer vigilant pour repousser un tir d’Arteta (44e), quelques instants après avoir été suppléé sur sa ligne par Barton suite à une tentative de Ramsey (43e).

 Comme lors du premier acte, QPR était la formation la plus inspirée au retour des vestiaires face à des Gunners hésitants. En ce sens, les Rangers s’offraient une nouvelle occasion de marquer. Mais une fois encore, Szczesny se montrait décisif pour empêcher Faurlin de concrétiser une belle action (53e). Peu à peu, Arsenal reprenait les choses en mains même si Walcott vendangeait une occasion en or de donner enfin l’avantage à son équipe (56e). C’était finalement chose faite par Van Persie qui profitait d’un décalage d’Arshavin pour expédier le cuir au fond des filets (1-0, 60e). Un soulagement pour l’Emirates, et un espoir pour le Néerlandais qui ne se retrouvait ainsi qu’à un but du record, détenu par Alan Shearer, du nombre de réalisations marquées en une année civile (36). Un record que l’attaquant londonien ne parvenait pas à égaler, faute d’occasions. Mais les trois points obtenus par Arsenal lui offriront du réconfort, même si ce succès était contesté par QPR qui ratait deux bonnes possibilités d’égaliser par Taarabt (67e) et Connolly (70e). Fort de ce succès, Arsenal s’empare de la 4e place du classement en profitant de la défaite surprise de Chelsea contre Aston Villa (1-3). Pour Wenger et ses hommes, l’année 2011 se termine bien.
