League Cup 1995 1996 Final Aston Villa Leeds United
24 March 1996
Wembley Stadium
Gary Speed came through the youth ranks at Leeds, making his first team debut in May 1989 as a 19-year-old. He quickly established himself, first on the left wing and eventually as a combative midfielder, thanks to his good touch and excellent game awareness. Speed’s qualities helped Leeds to climb out of the old Second Division as Champions in 1990 and he then made 41 appearances in manager Howard Wilkinson’s side that won the First Division title in 1992. Speed moved from Leeds to the club he supported as a boy, Everton, at the end of the 1995-96 season and was even made club captain, but he was on the move again in 1998, this time to Newcastle. After a spell at Bolton he joined Sheffield United in 2008, first as a player, then coach before taking over as manager in late 2010. After just two months in the job at Bramall Lane he took over from John Toshack as Wales boss.

League Cup 1970 1971 Final Tottenham Aston Villa
Aston Villa are no more nervous about F% playing at Wembley in the League Cup Final than a man collecting his wage packet after a week of hard work. The confidence that rubbed off on them in their memorable Semi-Final victory over humiliated Manchester United has become a permanency in Villa's approach to football. In fact, judged by the outward calm of Team Manager Vic Crowe — is he ever anything else but calm? — the League Cup Final could be on February 27, 1972, instead of this month. Crowe told Shoot: "We have got our priorities right, which means promotion to the Second Division is number one. "The Final at Wembley is number two. I'm not saying we don't want to win it. Nothing would thrill us more. What I am saying is that this match is a long way from our minds at this moment.
