Last week's victory left Villarreal only one point below Valencia in the table standings, and Submarino's coach Juan Carlos Garrido knows a victory is mandatory this week in Madrid to secure Villarreal's qualification for the next edition of the Champions League.  It could be an intruiging and potentially season defining match up for these two teams, both looking to take three points to maintain their stratospheric form this year. Udinese have slipped recently, losing two in a row against Lecce and Roma, putting paid to the Tripoli’s unbeaten 2011. Napoli on the other hand, are continuing their good form, the 4-3 victory over Lazio evident of the change in Napoli’s fortunes under Mazzari, and in Inter’s absence in the top two, are the main rival’s to Allegri’s high flying Rossoneri. In addition to the poor form, Udinese also lack top scorer Di Natale due to injury, as well Inter target Alexis Sanchez. The two forwards have been lighting up the peninsula with their stunning performances, their rout at Palermo evidence of that.

La meilleure équipe à l'extérieur est Manchester City. Voir donc Newcastle prendre le dessus sur les Citizens à quelque chose d'illogique. Même le passé plaide clairement en faveur de City qui n'a pas perdu lors de ses 8 derniers matches aux Magpies. Newcastle s'appuiera en tout cas sur son dernier succès sur Liverpool (3-1) pour déjouer les pronostics et surtout mettre fin à une malédiction lors du boxing day où ils n'ont plus gagné depuis 2001. On oubliera quand même pas de dire que City reste sur une défaite face à une très moyenne équipe d'Everton la semaine dernière.

On 9th of January, the two clubs met in the third of the FA Cup at Old Trafford with United emerging victorious courtesy of a second minute Ryan Giggs penalty after Dimitar Berbatov had been fouled. Any hopes of a Liverpool fightback were effectively extinguished on the half hour mark as captain Steven Gerrard was sent off for a foul on Michael Carrick as the Red Devils ruined Kenny Dalglish's return as Reds boss. A win for Liverpool will make it three in a row at Anfield against United, having beaten their bitter rivals 2-0 last season and 2-1 in 2008.

Le voyage des Red Devils à St Andrews s'annonce délicat face à l'une des équipes les plus en forme de Premier League. Birmingham City totalise 12 matchs consécutifs sans défaites, dont les matchs nuls face à Chelsea, Liverpool et Manchester City. Le bilan des hommes d'Alex McLeish est encore plus impressionnant à la maison puisqu'ils n'ont pas perdu à St Andrews depuis le mois de septembre. Alex McLeish pourrait reconduire le même onze de départ qui a fait match nul à Nottingham Forest pour le troisième tour de la FA Cup, ce qui représenterait le neuvième match d'affilé avec les mêmes titulaires. L'optimisme règne bien évidemment chez les Blues, mais si l'on regarde d'un peu plus près les livres d'Histoire, nous pouvons nous apercevoir que la dernière série de 11 matchs d'invincibilité, qui remonte à 1908, s'est soldée par une relégation, alors que United remportait le titre. Serait-ce un bon présage ?
