The 1968–69 season of the European Cup football club tournament was won by Milan, who beat Ajax 4–1 in the final, giving Milan its first European Cup title since 1963, and its second overall. A number of Eastern European clubs withdrew from the first two rounds when UEFA paired up all of the Eastern European clubs against one another.

Liverpool
won their first major trophy under Bob Paisley by narrowly winning the
league title after heated competition from Queens Park Rangers. They
also lifted the UEFA Cup for the second time in their history. Dave
Sexton's QPR side failed to win their first-ever league title but still
managed to finish in their highest ever position of runners-up and
qualify for the UEFA Cup. Following QPR into Europe were Tommy
Docherty's promising young Manchester United side, Dave Mackay's
defending champions Derby County and Jimmy Armfield's Leeds United.Going
down were Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley and Sheffield United. All
three would return to the top flight, but not without bitter spells in
the Fourth Division beforehand.Bertie
Mee, 57, retired after ten years as manager of Arsenal. The highlights
of his career had been the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumph of 1970 and
the Double win 1971, but Arsenal had fallen behind the best in recent
seasons and Mee handed over the reins to Terry Neill.

Premier League 2010 2011 "The North London derby" Tottenham Arsenal

FA Cup 1969 1970 Queens Park Rangers Chelsea "The West London Derby"
In 1969-1970, Sextone was happy with the talent available on the staff and, apart from Paddy Mulligan, a no-nonsense and versatile Irish defender signed in October, there were no newcomers of note. Chelsea never at anytime appeared likely champions, the Merseyside duo, together with Leeds United and Derby County, setting a hot pace as front runners. And, in truth, much of the flair and somewhat wayward genius in the Blues' ranks was always more likely to blossom on the big occasion, and most especially in knock-out football. And so it proved. The shock defeat, on a wintry October night, in the fifth round of the League Cup in Carlisle may even have acted as the spur when the more prestigious FA Cup competition began three months later.
