Scottish League 1974 1975 "The Old Firm" Celtic Rangers , Kenny in Glasgow

15 September 1974
Celtic Park,
Glasgow

There can be no mistaking the poise and style of a soccer thoroughbred. He is the player who relies solely on pure skill to beat his opponent... he is a superstar every other club would like to have in their first-team. In Kenny Dalglish, Celtic have one of the greatest prospects to be seen in Scottish soccer for many years. Dalglish is the golden boy of Parkhead. His smooth, controlled pace, allied to his devastating finishing in and around the penalty-box, makes him a player for the other teams to fear and rival managers to envy. If Jock Stein had to value Dalglish's sterling work for Celtic on today's transfer market it would start at around the £200,000 mark. Dalglish doesn't want to leave Parkhead and Stein will never let him go because there is no doubt he will be the leading tight behind Celtic's challenge for honours on the domestic and European scene for years to come. But there is one worrying feature of Dalglish's play ... one feature that makes him Celtic's £200,000 problem boy. At the start of every season Kenny kicks-off in true superstar style. He chases around in midfield, helps out in defence and always seems to find the time to pop-up in the danger-areas to belt in a couple of goats. However, Kenny hasn't as yet been able to sustain this sort of form throughout a season. Obviously it could be stated that he takes far too much out of himself earlier on, but the answer may not just be as simple as that...

C1 1975 1976 St Etienne Psv Eindhoven

English Leagues the 80s: First Division 1983 1984 Season Review

Liverpool became only the third club in the history of the League, after Huddersfield in the twenties and Arsenal in the thirties, to achieve a hat-trick of Championships when they drew 0-0 at Notts County on 12 May. Their latest triumph emphasizes that careful planning and continuity of management are essential requirements for consistent success in modern League soccer. While other clubs have changed managers with distasteful and expensive frequency, Liverpool have quietly kept matters in the family, promoting Bob Paisley when Bill Shankly retired and, 12 months ago, appointing Joe Fagan to maintain that line of succession. And Mr Pagan has quietly gone aboul his job, loo, with two major honours under his belt already and The European Cup final coining up at the end of the month.Typical of the way the club works is the purchase of men such as John Wark, shrewdly signed from Ipswich a couple of months ago when the Anfield tnidfield unit was beginning to show occasional signs of faltering. Wark, who has missed only a handful of games through injury over the last 10 years and rarely turns in a bad performance, provided the extra touch needed during the tiring closing weeks. Players like him — and Lee, Hansen, Neal and Kennedy — provide essential support for the more gifted football of Souiiess, Lawrenson. Dalglish, Rush and Whelan. For anyone who has lost count, this was Liverpool's 15th Championship.

Uefa Cup 1975 1976 Liverpool Slask Wroclaw

3rd Round Second Leg
10 December 1975
Anfield Road Liverpool

Attendance: 17,886

Victory against WKS Slask Wroclaw at Anfield was a formality. Liverpool supporters had been put off by the likelihood of a meaningless match, and as a consequence, Anfield hosted its lowest European crowd in 12 seasons, with just under 18,000 present to witness a comfortable win. One report called the game 'an annihilation', but that was probably a slight exaggeration. Liverpool certainly coasted home without extending themselves, although for most players and supporters it was a game to be quickly forgotten, for Jimmy Case, it was a truly memorable evening. The Liverpool-born player, who had only a handful of appearances under his belt, was called into the Liverpool line-up an hour before the kickoff, when Steve Heighway pulled out with a sore throat. At that stage in his career, 21-year-old Case operated as a striker, and he proved his mettle with a glorious hat-trick. He simply outclassed the Poles. It took Case just 22 minutes to find the route to goal, after a stylish feint by Toshack had given him a clear sight of the Polish 'keeper. It was Liverpool's 100th goal in Europe. Seven minutes later, Keegan put Case through and he scored Liverpool's second. A minute after the interval, Case netted when Kalinowski failed to hold a Brian Hall shot. Case had beaten the Poles on his own. The small crowd — less than half that present in Poland — could at least wend its way home satisfied that they had seen a Liverpool player with a bright future.
