Steve Cooper hopes that Wednesday night's heavy defeat to Manchester City will make the relationship stronger between players and fans. The Reds suffered a heavy loss to the reigning Premier League champions, with Pep Guardiola's side running out 6-0 winners at the Etihad Stadium. Forest found themselves 3-0 down at the break after Erling Haaland netted a first half hat-trick, before second half goals from João Cancelo and Julián Álvarez were added. Speaking after the game, the Forest Head Coach said: "Let's not shy away from it, it was a difficult evening for us. "We knew going into it that it was going to be an incredibly tough test, they are brilliant, there's no doubt about that, so we would have had to be perfect for us to get anything out of the game. "There were massive learnings from the game for me, if you make the smallest of errors against these teams, they punish you.

"I'll make sure that tonight doesn't define us, it's a great challenge for me and I'm glad our next game is on Saturday. It's important we have no days off and get back to training so we're right for the weekend. "I thank the supporters for sticking with us. It was a difficult night for them as well, but they were still proud of their team and we are proud of the way they supported us. "Difficult nights can make you stronger and tonight will make our relationship stronger with the fans because it will make us even more motivated to play well for them. "We have loads of gratitude for them, for the noise they made, the songs they sung, that will be a motivation for us for sure."
