FA Cup 2011 2012 Arsenal Aston Villa

29 Janvier 2012
Emirates Stadium London

So now we know. If you wish to substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, you do it with two minutes to go, with your team in the lead, and you bring on Thierry Henry. Signal joyous whoops all round. As it happened, the idea of any kind of happy ending was difficult to imagine at half‑time, as Arsenal trailed 2-0 and appeared to be on their way to yet another crushing blow after three straight Premier League defeats. All reason pointed towards gloom. Few inside the stadium would have backed Arsenal to rebound from another punishing spell on the ropes. As Arsène Wenger admitted: "When you don't win, belief goes." But against all expectation, the players rallied during the interval in the bowels of the Emirates Stadium, found reserves of courage to disprove the doubters, and scored three goals in a frenetic seven‑minute burst to tip this compelling Cup tie on its head. Theo Walcott, one of those who comes most under scrutiny at times like this, was quick to suggest that there can be more to this team than meets the eye. "It just shows we have got characters in the dressing room even though no one thinks we do," he said pointedly.

Premier League 2010 2011 Chelsea Manchester United

1 mars 2011 Stamford Bridge
Arbitre Martin Atkinson

United have not won at Stamford Bridge for nine years, by far their longest winless away streak at any Premier League team’s ground. They did beat Chelsea 3-1 in the Community Shield, but Chelsea won both league fixtures last season, all but sealing the title with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford. With both sides looking to pack the central area, the role of the wide players assumes extra importance. Cole’s advances often he is the Chelsea player highest up the pitch – mean Nani will need to put in a decent defensive shift as well as being United’s main counter-attacking outlet. Cole needs to be alert to Nani’s lightning pace.

Club Spotlight : Sunderland History

Having won six Championships before the Second World War and survived in the Football League from 1890 until 1958 without ever being relegated, Sunderland cherished their claim to be the only club never to play outside the top flight. However, since that first ever relegation in 1958, 'The Lads' have become one of the proverbial 'Yo-Yo' clubs and haven't finished in the top half of the top division since ninth place was achieved in 1956. Considering this prolonged period of failure at the top level - with the sole exception of the glorious day in 1973 when Sunderland became the first Second Division side in forty-two years to win the FA Cup - it is amazing that Sunderland can still count on such sizeable and optimistic support. Then again, it is the fact that Sunderland have such fanatical followers that makes them such a fascinating club.
