Mamelodi Sundowns clinched their first league title since 2007 after they defeated SuperSport United 3-0 in a league encounter at Loftus Stadium. The Brazilians remained four points clear despite Chiefs beating the University of Pretoria, while SuperSport are unchanged in fourth.
The game started with a high tempo but both sides failed to produce anything in the final third. Surprise Moriri should have opened the scoring with Sundowns first clear opening in the 21st minute, as he placed his effort wide of the goal from six-yards out after some great by Anthony Laffor on the right.
Teko Modise tried his luck with a free-kick from 25-yards out but the midfielder's curling effort was palmed away for a corner by Ronwen Williams. Sibusiso Khumalo came close just a minute later but the fullback fired an effort just wide of the mark from the edge of the area. Moriri put Sundowns ahead three minutes after the restart as he rose well to head home Tebogo Langerman's floated cross. Laffor came close to doubling the hosts' lead in the 55th minute as he fired just wide of the target from close range after a neat turned. Teko Modise increased the visitors advantage in the 61st with a moment of brilliance, as he spotted Williams off his line from 35-yards out, before lobbing the ball into the back of the net. Cuthbert Malajila added a third in the 73rd minute with a composed from close range, to seal the title for the Brazilians with one game to spare.
