Thierry Henry watched on from the sidelines as his New York Red Bulls set the early pace at the 2011 Emirates Cup with a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain. The Arsenal legend and all-time record goalscorer, who spent eight glorious years at the Club, stayed on the bench as a first-half strike from Joel Lindpere gave the MLS side three points in this year’s curtain-raiser. He may not have been on the pitch, but Thierry was given a hero’s welcome as he took his seat in the Red Bulls’ dugout, just in front of the watching Arsenal squad, before the game. High-fives and hugs with Robin van Persie had a section of Emirates Stadium on their feet and his every move was keenly observed by television cameras throughout. Make no mistake, Henry still has an aura about him. Although his fondest moments in a red shirt were down the road at Highbury, seeing ‘Titi’ back ‘home’ evoked memories of his unforgettable time at the Club. They may not have seen their idol in action but for the near-capacity crowd at Emirates, on a sun-drenched afternoon in the capital, this was a nice appetizer for Saturday’s main course between Arsenal and Boca Juniors.

Arsenal blew a two-goal lead and face more questions about their defensive frailties ahead of the new season after Boca Juniors battled to a 2-2 draw in the Emirates Cup this afternoon. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had kept captain Cesc Fabregas out of the squad, accepting speculation over his future left the Spain midfielder "unsettled" with Barcelona looking to take their former trainee back to the Nou Camp.

Arsenal know that victory against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday will see them retain the Emirates Cup after Boca Juniors’ hopes of lifting the trophy were ended with a 3-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. The victory propels PSG from bottom to top of the standings and ahead of Thierry Henry’s Red Bulls, who occupy second spot and face the hosts in Sunday’s main event, on goal difference. Jean-Eudes Maurice profited from some generous defending to put the Parisians ahead in the opening ten minutes and Guillaume Hoarau took advantage of more slack marking to head the game beyond the reach of Boca just before the interval. Marcos Ceara’s stunning second-half free-kick sealed an impressive win and ensured an entertaining start to the afternoon.

Thierry Henry won't be troubled by split loyalties when he faces Arsenal with the New York Red Bulls this weekend. Henry says so much has changed since his time in north London that he'll have no problem playing for the Major League Soccer outfit against his old team in the two-day Emirates Cup preseason tournament. The former France striker says he found it difficult to play for Barcelona against Arsenal in the Champions League last year but that things will be much easier this time because Sunday's match is a friendly. And it helps that Arsenal only played at its Emirates Stadium for the last of his eight seasons with the club. "I was injured a lot my last season at Arsenal, our first season at the new ground," Henry said. "When I come back now, I recognize all the people of course: the chef, the groundsman, the guy on the door. But once I'm out on the pitch? Not really. "All my memories are of Highbury. I know the move to the Emirates had to happen but Highbury will always be the place for me."
