En 1994, Luis Fernandez revient au Paris Saint-Germain en temps qu’entraîneur. Durant la saison 1995-1996, le PSG dispose de l’un de ses effectifs les plus complets de son histoire. A la trêve hivernale, Youri Djorkaeff et les siens domine le championnat avec 12 points d’avance sur son premier poursuivant. Malheureusement, l’omniprésence de Luis Fernandez dans la vie du groupe agace. Les défaites s’enchaînent. Auxerre parvient à passer devant. Le PSG mise alors tout sur l’Europe. Inquiet par les tensions entre son coach et les joueurs, Michel Denisot fait alors appel à Yannick Noah pour ressouder le groupe avant la finale de la Coupe des Coupes contre le Rapid de Vienne. Noah propose aux joueurs de faire la fête, mais sans les dirigeants. La formule est payante. Le groupe évacue le fait d’avoir perdu le championnat et arrive en pleine confiance à la finale de la Coupe des Coupes. Liverpool's sharpshooter supreme Ian Rush scored with a bumper pay-out as Anfield paid homage to its greatest soccer striking legend. A crowd of 25,856 grossed club record receipts for a testimonial of around $500,000 for the 33-year-old Welshman who has become as identified with the red of Liverpool as any player of the past 25 years. Stig Bjornebye, Steve McManaman and a Mark McNally own goal put Liverpool three ahead at the interval with second-half strikes from Phil Babb and Neil Ruddock adding to the pain for the Bhoys. Six minutes from time, Rush, himself, set the perfect seal on a night of glorious memories when he stabbed in the final goal at the Kop end, where he has been a hero for a decade and a half. Alan Hansen, Phil Thompson, Alan Kennedy, Joey Jones and Ronnie Whelan were among the past wearers of the famous Liverpool red who paid their dues to their former teammate by taking part in a celebrity game before the start of the main event. The 8000-strong Celtic contingent played their part as the two sets of supporters joined together in a standing ovation for Rush when he entered the Anfield arena he has graced so magnificently since joining as a 19-year-old from Chester in 1980. The party was joined when Kenny Dalglish - as much of an idol at Parkhead as Anfield - came out of retirement to reform his celebrated partnership with Rush for the second half. At the final whistle, Rush walked his personal lap of honor to round off the night. The Liverpool skipper told the crowd: "It's been such an emotional night for me. "I'd like to thank the Celtic supporters who've come such a long way to be here. And I'd also like to say thank you to the Liverpool fans, not just for tonight, but for the 14 years you've looked after me - you've been magnificent and I will love you always."

Celtic's Uefa Cup Journey "The Road To Sevilla"
Déjà victorieux à Liverpool (2-0), au tour précédent, après avoir été tenu en échec à l'aller à Glasgow (1-1), le Celtic a récidivé en demi-finale. Cette fois, c'est Boavista qui en a fait les frais! Grâce à l'incontournable Henrik Larsson, les «Bhoys» se sont imposés à Porto 1-0, privant du même coup le football portugais d'un derby inédit en finale à Séville. Car, ans l'autre match, le FC Porto a réussi le tour de force de bouter hors de l'épreuve une Lazio aux abois. Victorieux lors de la première manche à Das Antas (4-1 ï, les partenaires de Vitor Baia n'ont pas tremblé à Rome, se contentant du nul (0-0), après que le portier lusitanien eut notamment repoussé un penalty. Le 21 mai, sur la pelouse du stade Olympique de Séville, il faut d'ores et déjà se préparer à suivre le somptueux duel entre les deux meilleurs réalisateurs de l'épreuve (9 buts chacun), Henrik Larsson, côté Celtic, et Derlei, dans les rangs de Porto. Mais s'il paraît difficile de dégager un quelconque favori pour la victoire, une chose est sûre . néanmoins: personne ne devrait être déçu par le spectacle. Sur le terrain bien entendu, mais aussi en tribunes. Car pour l'ambiance, on compte évidemment sur les bouillants supporters des «Dragons», mais aussi et surtout, sur la turbulente et sympathique marée «verte et blanche» de Glasgow qui déferlera sur la cité andalouse.
