Victory against WKS Slask Wroclaw at Anfield was a formality. Liverpool supporters had been put off by the likelihood of a meaningless match, and as a consequence, Anfield hosted its lowest European crowd in 12 seasons, with just under 18,000 present to witness a comfortable win. One report called the game 'an annihilation', but that was probably a slight exaggeration. Liverpool certainly coasted home without extending themselves, although for most players and supporters it was a game to be quickly forgotten, for Jimmy Case, it was a truly memorable evening. The Liverpool-born player, who had only a handful of appearances under his belt, was called into the Liverpool line-up an hour before the kickoff, when Steve Heighway pulled out with a sore throat. At that stage in his career, 21-year-old Case operated as a striker, and he proved his mettle with a glorious hat-trick. He simply outclassed the Poles. It took Case just 22 minutes to find the route to goal, after a stylish feint by Toshack had given him a clear sight of the Polish 'keeper. It was Liverpool's 100th goal in Europe. Seven minutes later, Keegan put Case through and he scored Liverpool's second. A minute after the interval, Case netted when Kalinowski failed to hold a Brian Hall shot. Case had beaten the Poles on his own. The small crowd  less than half that present in Poland — could at least wend its way home satisfied that they had seen a Liverpool player with a bright future.

Deuxieme Division 2011 2012 SC Bastia Chateauroux

24 Avril 2012

Division Two Playoffs 1988 1989 PlayOffs Final Blackburn Rovers Crystal Palace

Match Aller
31 mai 1989
Ewood Park

Crystal Palace strode triumphantly into Division One amid amazing scenes when Ian Wright scored a stunning winner three minutes from the end of time in the second leg of their promotion play-off at Selhurst Park. Wright's carefully placed header capped a magnificent performance from Steve Coppell's team as they clawed back Blackburn's two-goal advantage from the first leg. In a contest that could not be bettered as a sporting spectacle, Palace remained true to their season-long philosophy and gambled on attack. It was daring, painfully exciting, but above all successful. In the frenzied atmosphere. Palace benefited from an early break, when the prolific Wright scrambled home his first goal after Pardew's cross had caused havoc. Only the heroics of central defender Hendry kept Blackburn from disintegrating, but they stayed ahead on aggregate until just after the interval. Atkins needlessly brought down McGoldrick, anil Madden converted the penalty to set up the eventual dramatic finish.

One of only four Newcastle players ever to return to the club as manager, Kevin Keegan occupied a prime place in the affections of all Newcastle supporters in two dramatically successful playing years in the stripes from 1982 to 1984. Keegan galvanised the slumbering club and left with United a First Division side, but then was called on to return as manager after eight years out of the game to guide United away from the bottom of the Second Division and into the newly-formed Premier League.

Newcastle Division Two 1992 1993 Champions

Newcastle did not just win promotion. They went up with superb panache and style into the bargin. Kevin Keegan's men set record after record including a club best points haul and United's biggest number of wins in a season. Their magnificent start of 11 wins in the first 11 games provided the platform on which the First Division Championship was won. And while there were a few mini stutters on the way, they also ended the season powerfully to take the title with plenty to spare. So where was the difference from a side that had only just escaped relegation the previous season? Most importantly, Keegan instilled enthusiasm and confidence. The players almost expected to go up before a ball was kicked. He bought well during the summer, particularly at fullback where Barry Venison and John Beresford had magnificent seasons.

If "1967" has become synonymous with QPR's Wembley Victory (and the Third Division Championship!) 1968 was in some ways even more beyond belief.  Back in 1967-1969, it was promotion for the top two teams; and no playoffs! And it was goal aggregate (goals for divided by goals agains( rather than goal difference that determined a position in same number of points) And then almost as a note in passing, 1967-1968 was also the season which saw Alan Wilks score a record five goals for QPR in their 5-1 League Cup victory over Oxford. Managed by Alec Stock and Bill Dodgin...Captained by Mike Keen...Inspired by Rodney Marsh and Roger and Ian Morgan... The Players: In 1967-1968: Mark Lazarus started with QPR and moved on to Crystal Palace. Formre England Goalkeeper, Ron Springett had returned to QPR in a swop, in which his brother Peter Springett moved to Sheffield Wednesday. Alan Harris joined QPR. Rodney Marsh missed the start of the season with a broken foot, but ended the season as top goalscorer with 14 goals. Near the transfer deadline, Frank Clarke joined QPR from Shrewsbury (after QPR failed to sign John O'Rourke) Les Allen, Frank Clarke, Dave Clement, Alan Harris, Tony Hazell, Ron Hunt, Mike Keen, Bobby Keetch, Mick Leach, Rodney Marsh, Ian Morga, Roger Morgan, Keith Sanderson Also: Mark Lazarus, Bobby Finch, Backup goalie, Mike Kelly, Frank Sibley, Ian Watson, Alan Wilks

Chelsea is back and will, once again, be a power in English football. It seems that everybody has learnt lessons from the past year. Ken Bates, the players and the supporters rejoice in promotion and also pray that they do not suffer the indignity of relegation again. Quite a few things have happened on the Chelsea scene. First there is the news about the granting of planning permission for the Stamford Bridge development. But just as important has been the clubs playing record since then, because without the team being in the First Division any redevelopment might be hampered by lack of investment from supporters as well as other sources. Chelsea is in line for a new record on away goals scored, which stands on 41, most wins in a season stands at 25, most points in a season stands at 88, most goals in a season stands at 98, and hopefully they will win the Second Division Championship as they have never won any senior trophy twice, and finally is that Dave Beasant only has to play at West Bromwich Albion to have played at every ground in the Football League.

Division Two 1986 1987 Manchester City Huddersfield

7 Novembre 1987
Maine Road

Manager Mel Machin spent just over two years in charge at Maine Road but had the privilege to preside over two games that will linger long in the fans' memories. This one was City's biggest win of the century; the other was, of, course, the famous '5-1' victory over Manchester United in September 1989. Wearing a hideous black and yellow square kit (possibly the worst ever seen at Maine Road) Huddersfield, bottom of the table, arrived for the game with new manager Malcolm Macdonald just three weeks into the job. Despite their lowly league position, Huddersfield could have taken the lead twice in the opening ten minutes. City's Neil McNab, at his most influential that day, broke the deadlock in the 12th minute and well and truly opened the floodgates.

Division Two 1983 1984 8 Goals Thriller Notts County Watford

11 Fevrier 1984
Meadow Lane Nottingham

Following the 5-2 home defeat to Leicester, Notts had earned a creditable 1-1 draw at Arsenal and made it through to the 5th round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town, but we then crashed 4-1 at Everton. Wearing sponsored shirts for the first time ever in this match v. Watford, County took the lead when Harkouk headed in McCulloch's cross from the right. John Terry then shoved Christie out of the way in the area as he tried to get on the end of a long ball, the ref gave Notts a penalty which Christie converted for 2-0. A fluke goal allowed Watford back into the match when a free-kick found its' way to Kenny Jackett, McDonagh pushed his effort away but it ricocheted off David Hunt and into the net, 2-1. A cross from the left led to Watford's equaliser, the ball found its' way to Callaghan on the right who guided a low shot into the far side of the net for 2-2.

For the Second Leg 31,037 fans flocked to Elland Road in anticipation of silverware success and to see if the Leeds youngsters could finish the job. It didn’t take United long to extend their aggregate lead with a stunning overhead kick from Jamie Forrester. Paul Scholes levelled on the night with a penalty, but within a minute Leeds made the aggregate score 4-1 with a Matthew Smithard goal.

FA Youth Cup 1995 1996 Final West Ham United Liverpool

The TIA Panel have voted Liverpool’s 1996 Youth Cup win in at Number 96 in the Days We’ll Remember all our Lives countdown. This was Liverpool first ever youth Cup win, a team full of bright prospects such as David Thompson, Phil Brazier, Jon Newby, Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher. On the way to the Final in 1996, the Liverpool youth team overcame Bradford City, Luton Town, Sheffield United, Manchester United and Crystal Palace. The semi final seen a fascinating 7-5 aggregate win against Crystal Palace. A week after the ‘˜white Armani suits’ FA Cup Final, the Liverpool Youth Team faced West Ham over a two-legged Final, the club who had beaten the Reds in the Final more than 30 years earlier.

AS Monaco Champion de France 1999 2000

Coupe France 1992 1993 Finale PSG FC Nantes

12 juin 1993

13 Mai 1995
Parc des Princes

Petite  finale, beau capitaine.
