A drama-filled 2022-23 Premier Soccer League season officially came to an end on Saturday with matchday 30 games taking place. There are plenty of talking points from a season that saw Mamelodi Sundowns win the league championship in a record-breaking fashion. While Orlando Pirates outclassed SuperSport United in the enthralling battle for the runners-up spot which went down to the wire. For Pirates' arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs it was a season to forget as the Glamour Boys set a few unwanted records.

Two of the most lethal strikers in the country, Peter Shalulile and Bradley Grobler, joined the PSL's 100-goal club. Grobler, 35, reached a century of goals when he converted a penalty during SuperSport's win over Maritzburg United in March this year. A month later, Shalulile, 29, grabbed a brace in Sundowns' win over Algeria's CR Belouizdad to reach the milestone. Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana made PSL history when he scored a unique hat-trick in October 2022. The Kaizer Chiefs centre-forward scored a hat-trick of penalties against Stellenbosch FC as the Soweto giants emerged victorious.

Arthur Zwane made history by becoming the first South Africa-born coach to win his first two Soweto Derby matches against Orlando Pirates. The former Bafana Bafana assistant coach masterminded two 1-0 wins over the Buccaneers in league matches. Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi made five changes during the season which saw Danie Klate being dismissed after a few matches in charge of the team. The retired winger was replaced by Morgan Mammila who was also fired after four months and Kurt Lentjies took over the reins for a short period of time. Lentjies was later replaced by Siyabulela Gwambi who served for less than a month before Lehlohonolo Seema took charge and guided the team to safety.
