Vancouver, now undefeated in five games, improved to 2-2-2 and moved into eighth place in the Western Conference, while Portland (1-4-2) fell to 12th, having gone winless in six games since their season-opening win over Sporting KC.“The key (tonight)? We have a very good team,” said head coach Vanni Sartini. “We had the ball much more than them, we had a lot of chances. I was a little bit angry at the end of the first half because I thought that … we were a little bit cocky with the ball and trying to do something beautiful instead of something efficient.“But I think that the result is a lie. There’s more goals between us and them. I’m happy that we won.”

It was the second straight regular season shutout for Yohei Takaoka at B.C. Place, though he only faced two shots and didn’t have to make a save. The Caps dominated possession for the third straight game. After putting up 62 against Minnesota and 64 vs. Montreal, Vancouver had 58 per cent of possession against Portland.
