Lyon a été battu par Liverpool 3 à 1, mercredi au stade de Genève, en match amical, affichant d’inquiétantes faiblesses dans tous les domaines, en particulier défensif, à neuf jours de ses débuts en Championnat de France en déplacement à Monaco. L’OL avait pourtant ouvert la marque par Memphis Depay qui a transformé un penalty accordé pour une faute du gardien Alison Becker sur Moussa Dembélé dès la 3e minute. Après ce but, les Lyonnais ne se sont mis en évidence que deux fois dans la rencontre, sur une reprise de volée de Memphis, non cadrée (11), puis sur un tir de Bertrand Traoré arrêté par le gardien brésilien des Reds (60). Pour le reste, le jeu de Lyon a été proche du néant. Déjà contre Arsenal, dimanche à Londres, l’OL avait gagné (2-1) en trompe l’oeil un match que les Gunners auraient dû remporter largement après une première période au cours de laquelle les Lyonnais, sauvés à plusieurs reprises par le gardien Anthony Lopes, avaient été inexistants défensivement. n 4-3-3 puis en 4-4-2 à partir de la 30e minute, des organisations de jeu qui se sont avérées inefficaces, cet aspect primordial du jeu n’a pas progressé. Les attaquants ont été faibles dans le repli défensif et les milieux absents, trop loin pour effectuer un pressing efficace laissant, comme à Londres, une ligne défensive souvent en infériorité numérique.

Sur le plan offensif, le déchet technique a été trop important pour porter le danger et mettre la pression sur les champions d’Europe. Ce qui implique que le nouvel entraîneur du club, le Brésilien Sylvinho, devra rapidement repenser ses compositions d’équipe pour rendre efficace l’organisation qu’il veut mettre en place. iverpool a égalisé par Roberto Firmino sur un tir croisé (17) avant que la recrue danoise Joachim Andersen ne marque contre son camp à la réception d’un centre de Ki Jana Hoever (21). Enfin, en seconde période, les Reds ont été très dangereux sur une tentative de Bobby Duncan (52) avant que Harry Wilson n’ajoute un troisième but sur un tir se logeant dans la lucarne (3-1, 53). Pire, en toute fin de match, Lyon a été proche d’encaisser un quatrième but sur un tir puis un coup franc d’Alexander-Arnold alors que l’entraîneur Jurgen Klopp avait fait entrer à la 60e minute une équipe quasi complète, proche de celle qui devrait jouer le Community Shield dimanche contre Manchester City.De son côté, l’OL disputera son dernier match de pré-saison samedi à Bournemouth.

Jurgen Klopp named all five returning players in his starting lineup, with Alisson, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all taking to the field for the first time this summer. The cobwebs were clear for Alisson as he fumbled a ball from a routine cross and ultimately brought down the striker, with Memphis Depay stepping up to convert a fourth-minute penalty. There were further errors from Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez soon after, but Liverpool improved swiftly, with Keita strong in midfield and Wilson hitting the post after cutting inside from the left. But the leveller came via Firmino, with Shaqiri’s cross blocked into his path and, with his back to goal and little else on, the Brazilian swivelled and fired a great finish into the far corner for 1-1. And the Reds were ahead soon after as Ki-Jana Hoever, fresh from signing his first professional deal with the club, delivered a brilliant ball from the right and, bizarrely, Joachim Andersen hammered a volley into his own net.

Liverpool lost a measure of fluency as Klopp brought off Shaqiri and Firmino on the half-hour, but they remained on top as they closed out the first half at 2-1. Klopp provided more opportunities to youth at the start of the second half, as Sepp van den Berg, Adam Lewis and Bobby Duncan all came on for their last appearances of pre-season. Duncan looked particularly bright in the final third, and the forward’s perseverance played a key role in Liverpool’s third but the finish was all Wilson. Picking the ball up from Duncan with 35 yards between him and goal, the Welsh winger fired an unstoppable, swerving strike into the top corner to reinforce his claim for a first-team role.  Eleven more changes were made on the hour, with the remainder of Klopp’s substitutes bar Andy Lonergan coming on, including 16-year-old winger Harvey Elliott.  The new signing impressed with his one-touch play, a mazy run into the box and a dipping long-range effort, but neither he nor his team-mates were able to add another, leaving it a convincing 3-1 victory.
