Auckland FC opened their Isuzu UTE A-League account in style, defeating Brisbane Roar 2-0 on a memorable afternoon in Go Media Stadium. In front of a packed out crowd of 24,492 people the Black Knights got off to a flyer; Japanese icon and newly installed club captain Hiroki Sakai drilling a dangerous ball across the box which was flicked into his own net by defender Harry Van Der Saag An own goal on debut, Van Der Saag unfortunately joins Ben Kantarovski in becoming a rival club’s inaugural goalscorer, after the former Newcastle Jet turned one into his own net to give Melbourne Heart their first ever goal back in 2010. An already pumping Go Media Stadium then exploded in the 75th minute after forward Logan Rogerson became the first ever home goalscorer for the Black Knights, tapping in Francis De Vries’ cross at the far post to give the Black Knights a two-goal buffer. ‘We are top of the league!’ sang Auckland FC’s new active supporter group ‘The Port’ as Steve Corica’s men cruised to the full time whistle on what was a memorable afternoon at Go Media Stadium.

Winning the A-League Championship is the aim for Auckland FC as the competition’s newest team begun. “We all have our dreams,” Becker said on the ‘Mike Hosking Breakfast’ program. “From day one, we’ve always said we’re not here to make up the numbers. We’re super ambitious. We want to be successful.
