AmaZulu, Richards Bay, Royal AM and eSwatini side Mbabane Swallows feature in the 2023 Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup. The pre-season tournament is a tribute to the struggle icon of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who is the former leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).The tournament, which started in 2017, was won by AmaZulu who beat Richards Bay FC in the final last year.The now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic were the first to win it in 2017 and they were followed by Mamelodi Sundowns in 2018. It then returned last year where AmaZulu succeeded Sundowns.

Le prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, décédé samedi à l'âge de 95 ans, était une figure de la lutte anti-apartheid, un homme politique incontournable, un pilier de l'histoire sud-africaine. Ce nationaliste zoulou avait fondé le parti de l'Intakha pour défendre les intérêts de son ethnie et de son roi, quitte à s'opposer violemment à l'ANC, l'ancien mouvement de libération devenu l'actuel parti au pouvoir. Malgré un passé controversé, l'ensemble de la classe politique lui a rendu hommage. Un héritage complexe, voilà comment est décrite la carrière de Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Sa relation belliqueuse avec l'ANC, sa défense sans concession de la nation zouloue... Mais avec Buthelezi disparaît probablement la dernière grande figure des années de lutte contre l'apartheid, selon Mahlengi Benghu-Motsiri, porte-parole de l'ANC.

« Sa mort, dit-elle, referme un chapitre très particulier de notre histoire, à la fois douloureux et glorieux. Il a été très actif pour mener les négociations qui ont permis de faire advenir la démocratie que nous connaissons aujourd'hui. »
