Même s'il n'agissait pas comme entraîneur-chef pour la rencontre, John Herdman était présent et bien attentif pour voir la victoire de 3 à 1 du Toronto FC face à l'Union de Philadelphie. Deux jours seulement après son embauche comme nouvel entraîneur-chef du TFC, Herdman a assisté au réveil de l'équipe, qui n'avait pas connu la victoire depuis le 27 mai. Dernier dans l'Est, Toronto a connu son meilleur match offensif de la saison, elle qui n'avait pas été en mesure d'inscrire trois buts dans la même rencontre depuis le début de la campagne. Lorenzo Insigne, Deandre Kerr et Jonathan Osorio ont trouvé le fond du filet pour l'équipe hôtesse, alors que Julian Carranza a été le seul marqueur pour Philadelphie.
With incoming coach John Herdman in attendance, Toronto FC stunned the visiting Philadelphia Union 3-1 on Wednesday night. Herdman watched from a suite as Toronto (4-13-10, 22 points) won for the first time since May 27 to snap an eight-match losing streak and an 11-match winless run. It marks the first time the Reds have earned points under interim coach Terry Dunfield, who replaced Bob Bradley at the end of June. Philadelphia had its three-match winning streak end while allowing three goals for only the third time this season.
