Portland Thorns FC conceded a first-half penalty kick and pushed for an equalizer, outshooting the Kansas City Current 26-5, but were unable to find the game-tying goal, falling 1-0 on Saturday evening at Providence Park. Portland will travel for their next game, visiting NJ/NY Gotham FC on July 9.  Portland suffered its first loss at home in NWSL regular-season play since Aug. 27, 2022. The loss snapped a streak of eight consecutive league games without a loss at Providence Park. During that span Portland was 6-0-2 at home, outscoring its opponents by a margin of 24-6 in those matches. Tonight, also snapped a streak of 18 consecutive regular-season matches with a goal for Thorns FC. It was just the fifth time Portland has been shutout at Providence Park in its last 20 regular-season matches.
