Sundowns made two changes to the team that thrashed Stellenbosch, as Lyle Lakay and Thapelo Morena were recalled while SuperSport brought back Iqraam Rayners, Thalente Mbatha and Sibusiso Maziko. The Brazilians were combining well going forward in the early exchanges, creating chances and Khuliso Mudau came the closest on 21 minutes after going through in the box but his low strike across goal missed the bottom corner narrowly wide. SuperSport were absorbing the pressure but had a good chance five minutes later from a counter-attack after a cross by Rayners in the box but Bradley Grobler's outstretched leg could not connect, with only shot-stopper Ronwen Williams to beat.Gavin Hunt's charges were quick to close down Sundowns in their own half and nearly broke the deadlock just before the half-time break from another transition after Rayners' first-time shot was saved by Williams with his legs at the near post from a cross by Gamphani Lungu.
Sundowns were on the front foot early in the second stanza but they were not allowed space and time around the box, as the likes of Peter Shalulile, Themba Zwane and Neo Maema were kept quiet. The Brazilians made an attacking change just after the hour-mark, as Marcelo Allende replaced Maema and five minutes later they made a tactical switch, as Abubaker Nasir came on for Mudau. Allende had an almost immediate impact, as he broke the deadlock for Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena's troops ten minutes before time with a tap-in after a scuffed shot by Shalulile at the near post. Matsatsantsa pushed numbers going forward in the dying minutes and were fortunate not to be one man down after Yandisa Mfolozi got only a yellow card for pulling down Nasir, who was going clear on goal on a counter-attack. However, Nasir eventually killed off the game for the Brazilians in stoppage time with a first-time finish from close-range after a cross by Teboho Mokoena, as Sundowns joined AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-finals.
