Pirates made four changes to the team that narrowly beat Marumo Gallants in midweek, as Thabiso Monyane, Olisa Ndah, Deon Hotto and Bienvenu Eva Nga were recalled. The Buccaneers had the perfect start after Vincent Pule opened the scoring in the first three minutes with a well drilled left-footed strike into the bottom corner after Royal AM failed to clear. The visitors remained on the front foot and Royal AM were fortunate not to go one man down on 14 minutes after Ricardo Nascimento got only a yellow card for bringing down Pule, who was going clear on goal on the edge of the box. Royal AM had a big chance to level matters a couple of minutes later after a deflection fell on the path of Sera Motebang clear on goal in the box but he guided his shot over the crossbar. Zakhele Lepasa made his second strat of the season and should have doubled the lead ten minutes before the halftime break after a cut-back by Eva Nga in the box but after his initial shot was blocked, he side-footed the rebound well wide.
The hosts started brightly in the second stanza but they went 2-0 behind ten minutes in after goalkeeper Zakahle Ngcobo spilled a low shot from Thabiso Monyane into his own net.

Thwihli Thwahla responded just after that after Mokete Mogaila tapped home a rebound in the box from a shot by Mfundo Thikazi that came off the bottom post. Pirates looked to absorb the pressure after that with two defensive changes as Ben Motshwari replaced Eva Nga and on 67 minutes Paseka Mako came on for Hotto, at left wing-back. Royal AM had the attacking momentum in the closing stages and Thabo Matlaba came close to snatching the equaliser in the last 12 minutes with a cracking shot from outside the box that sailed slightly over the crossbar.
However, Pirates managed to get some breathing space after they brought fresh legs of Bandile Shandu, Fortunate Makaringe and Kwame Peprah and managed to shut-out the home side at the back. Both sides ended the game with ten men after Khethukuthula Ndlovu got a straight red card for violent conduct and Goodman Mosele received a second yellow card, as the Buccaneers held on to book their spot in the semi-finals.
