Hasard du calendrier, le Milan et Naples se retrouvaient trois jours après leur affrontement en Championnat. Le match s'était conclu sur un 0-0 assez terne. Mais cette fois-ci, les deux formations se disputaient une place en demi-finale de la Coupe d’Italie. Recruté cet hiver pour 35 millions d’euros, Piatek était titularisé pour la première fois à la pointe de l’attaque des Rossoneri. Et c’est le Polonais qui se montrait le premier dangereux. Sur une passe de Kessié, le numéro dix-neuf reprenait de volée, mais sa frappe fuyait de peu le cadre (7e). La deuxième tentative était la bonne. Après une magnifique transversale de Laxalt, le joueur contrôlait à l’entrée de la surface et mystifiait Meret du plat du pied droit (1-0, 11e). San Siro hurlait de joie.

La réaction des Napolitains ne se faisait pas attendre. Insigne tentait de tromper Donnarumma à plusieurs reprises (13e, 22e). En vain. Le Milan AC creusait même l’écart grâce à… Piatek !  Lancé sur la gauche de la surface, le Polonais contournait Koulibaly et décrochait une frappe enroulée dans le petit filet (2-0, 27e). Alors que le Milan souffrait dans le jeu, son nouvel attaquant faisait la différence. Solide défensivement et efficace en attaque, le Milan AC menait tout de même logiquement les débats contre une équipe napolitaine où seul Insigne se montrait dangereux.

Au retour des vestiaires, Carlo Ancelotti, très certainement énervé de la situation, sortait Allan pour faire entrer Ounas. Un choix offensif pas forcément payant puisque les locaux se procuraient les meilleures occasions. Bakayoko tentait une frappe de loin, mais Meret s’interposait (50e). A son aise depuis plusieurs semaines, le milieu de terrain français réalisait jusque-là une prestation très solide. Naples dominait dans la possession (59%) et l’occupation du terrain mais manquait de créativité pour mettre en danger Donnarumma, qui aura vécu une soirée plutôt tranquille. Et la star de la rencontre restera bien Piatek. Fraîchement recruté en provenance du Genoa, le double buteur a réalisé des débuts en fanfare, et surclassé Milik dans le duel entre attaquants polonais. A sa sortie du terrain, le public milanais l’a chaleureusement applaudi, et lui a même consacré un chant (79e). Grâce à cette victoire, le Milan se qualifie pour les demi-finales de la Coupe d’Italie, où il devra affronter la Lazio ou l’Inter Milan. Naples, lui, n’a gagné qu’un seul des huit matches disputés dans cette compétition à San Siro contre le Milan. C’était en 1975-1976 (2-0). Dur...

Super partita del Milan che affonda il Napoli nel primo tempo con un super debutto di Krzysztof Piatek. Il Pistolero spara due volte, prima su un bel lancio di Laxalt, poi su azione personale in cui supera Koulibaly e Maksimovic con una gran botta che non lascia speranze a Meret. Ma il Milan è tanto altro, soprattutto in difesa: splendida prestazione di Bakayoko e Romagnoli, importanti anche le prove di Laxalt e Musacchio. Molto deludente il Napoli, con il solo Insigne che tenta di ribaltare il match. Gattuso arriva con merito alle semifinali di Coppa Italia dove affronterà la vincente tra Lazio-Inter di giovedì. AC Milan needed extra time to seal their place in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia, eventually besting Torino 4-2 at San Siro. The home side enjoyed the majority of the game, with Salvatore Sirigu the busier goalkeeper for the majority of the tie.  Although Milan kept knocking on the door, they struggled to cope with Torino's threat going forward - making for an intriguing and entertaining cup tie. The hosts did take the lead early on, having put persistent pressure on the visitors goal. Ante Rebic broke through the left-hand side and cut the ball back for Giacomo Bonaventura, who slotted the ball into an empty net. Gleison Bremer, however, hit back for the visitors 20 minutes later, as he calmly slotted past Gianluigi Donnarumma. This was moments after Samu Castillejo hit the post from close range, which would have seen Milan double their lead.  Bremer struck again as Ola Aina's inviting cross was glanced in by the central defender, who had just one goal this season before travelling to San Siro.  Frustrations among the home supporters grew as Milan failed to breakdown a resolute Torino defence, before substitute Hakan Calhanoglu rescued the Rossoneri with a dramatic last minute strike, which beat Sirigu via a timely deflection. As the game headed into extra time, Milan began to assert their authority on proceedings and should have taken the lead through Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede somehow fired over from close range, though, before Sirigu made another good save from Calhanoglu.

The Turkish attacking midfielder would not be denied, and he struck seconds into the second period of extra time, lifting the ball over Sirigu. Just two minutes later, Ibrahimovic made amends for his miss by rifling the ball into the roof of the Torino net - sealing the home side's passage into the next round.
