 The hosts took the lead in the 31st minute when French star Paul Pogba converted a penalty kick. Manchester United doubled the score three minutes later after another Frenchman, forward Anthony Martial, was successful on another penalty. A strike by Pogba from 25 meters out in injury time that beat goalkeeper Volkan Demirel put Manchester up by three goals heading to the dressing room at Old Trafford. Red Devils' English midfielder Jesse Lingard added a fourth goal for good measure as he smashed a shot from outside the penalty box in the second half. Former Man U forward Robin van Persie put the ball into his ex-team's net in the 83rd minute for a consolation goal on a close-range finish. His two goals helped Pogba to be named player of the match by UEFA.
