Christian Wück's first competitive game in charge of Germany's women's team ended in a 2-2 Nations League draw in the Netherlands on Friday. Spectacular friendly wins over European champions England and Switzerland contrasted with home defeats by Australia and Italy in Wück's reign so far, and the Group A1 opener in Breda showed more inconsistency. Lineth Beerensteyn, who plays in Germany with Wolfsburg, gave the Dutch the lead on 13 minutes when she outpaced surprise Germany debutant Rebecca Knaack and nutmegged keeper Ann-Katrin Berger. But Germany levelled just before the break through Lea Schüller's header. Soon after the break, new permanent Germany captain Guila Gwinn linked up with Jule Brand, who set up Sjoeke Nüsken for 2-1. Beerensteyn would not be denied, though, and scored her second on 66 minutes amid more lax defending. The Germans next host Austria in the Nations League on Tuesday as the eight-times champions build for July's Euro 2025.
