Les Rangers ont gâché leur ultime occasion de croire au titre samedi en s’inclinant au Celtic Park (2-1). Le match a basculé dans la folie en cinq minutes avec trois buts : deux pour le Celtic, signés Matt O’Riley (35e) et John Lundstram contre son camp (38e), et Cyriel Dessers pour les Gers (40e). Le dauphin a toutefois été stoppé dans son élan par le tacle très appuyé de John Lundstram sur Alistair Johnston, sanctionné d’un carton rouge (45e+2). Le penalty raté d’O’Riley (55e) n’a pas eu de conséquences : en maîtrise, le Celtic compte maintenant six points d’avance à deux journées de la fin du championnat.

Les joueurs de Brendan Rodgers ont désormais une main et quatre doigts sur le trophée, qui consacrera un peu plus leur domination : ce titre de champion d’Ecosse sera leur douzième titre en treize ans. L’officialisation pourrait intervenir mardi, en cas de faux pas des Rangers contre Dundee, ou mercredi, à condition de prendre au moins un point face à Kilmarnock. Les Rangers devront donc miser sur la finale de la Coupe, le 25 mai, encore face au Celtic, pour soulever leur deuxième trophée de la saison après la Coupe de la Ligue.
