Thierry Anthony bagged a brace to pave the way for a 3-0 Bonaire victory at Anguilla in Group A of League C of the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League on Saturday at the Raymond E. Guishard Stadium in The Valley, Anguilla. Bonaire now sit on six points through three games, three points behind leaders Saint Martin. The two sides meet in the group finale on Tuesday. Bonaire could not have asked for a better start, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in just the third minute of play, as Anthony artfully redirected in a cross from the right wing.
Three minutes later in the 6’ the Bonaire lead was doubled to 2-0, with Anthony stroking home a penalty after Jonathan Libania was taken down in the area. The Anguilla defense did a nice job the rest of the way to keep Bonaire out of the net, despite several good chances. At the other end, Anguilla were also starting to get some looks themselves, but nothing that got past Bonaire GK Denyor Cicilia. Anthony was denied a hat-trick in the 64’ when he was played in but was denied on the reaction save from Anguilla GK Jelanie Lawrence. Anthony instead assumed the role of playmaker and crafted the third Bonaire goal by whipping in a cross from the right flank that was stabbed home by Freadyen Michiel in the 73’ for a 3-0 lead that held until the final whistle.
