Pohang Steelers came from behind to defeat Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1 in Group J of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 on Wednesday. The result means Korea Republic's Pohang look good value to confirm their spot in the Round of 16 as group winners. For defending champions Urawa of Japan, the defeat leaves them on four points with a place in the next stage seemingly out of reach. Urawa came into the tie desperately needing a win and they started on the front foot. Their positive approach paid dividends in the 36th minute when, following a fast break, Ekanit Panya found Jesse Kante who sent his left footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom right corner. 

Pohang, with a perfect record of three wins going into the tie, fought back but the equaliser eluded them as Urawa went into the break ahead. Pohang upped their tempo in the second half and after several close calls, finally drew level in the 66th minute after a VAR review saw a penalty being awarded against Marius Høibråten for handball, with Zeca convertin Boosted by the leveller, Pohang surged forward and took the points in dramatic fashion, with substitute Kim In-sung scoring the winner in the fourth minute of added time. Pohang meet Hanoi FC next on November 29 while Urawa will play Wuhan Three Towns FC.
