The A-League Men season kicked off with a bang as Wellington Phoenix trounced Brisbane Roar 5-2 at Sky Stadium. The Phoenix’s Polish striker, Oskar Zawada, was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick and powering his team’s recovery from an early goal deficit. The victory marked an impressive start to the season for the Phoenix, who have accumulated seven points from their first three games despite the loss of their previous coach and several key players.

Zawada’s hat-trick was a career highlight for the striker, who had set himself a target of ten goals for the season. Despite his stellar performance, Zawada remained grounded, keeping his sights set on the team’s upcoming games and emphasizing the need to continue scoring goals. The Phoenix’s victory was characterized by a relentless attacking mentality. Even with a comfortable lead, they continued to press, resulting in a fifth goal from Zawada. The team’s resilience was also evident as they fought back from an early deficit, equalizing through right-back Tim Payne’s first-ever A-League goal before taking the lead thanks to a mistake from Brisbane captain Tom Aldred.
