Portland Thorns suffer first loss of 2023 season, 2-1, to Houston Dash. Issues at the back were alleviated by potent scoring for the Portland Thorns in their past two matches, both 3-3 draws. But an uncharacteristic one-goal effort and continued struggles to consistently defend led to a 2-1 road loss to the Houston Dash. “I don’t think we played Thorns soccer tonight,” midfielder Sam Coffey said. “We were tense. We weren’t ourselves. ... This team is so excellent, and each individual on our team, I can’t even describe how personally we take it. ... We are going to come together after this, because of this, and use it to be better.” The Dash had a flurry of chances as the second half wound down, but none were able to force Bixby into any uncomfortable situations.
