Mamelodi Sundowns FC a infligé une lourde défaite au Al AHly SC ce samedi après-midi au Loftus Versfeld en Afrique du Sud, lors de leur match de la 4e journée de la Ligue des champions de la CAF. Il y a eu du spectacle, vraiment. Évoluant à domicile, ce sont les Downs qui ont ouvert le score après seulement 4 minutes, suite à une erreur défensive des Egyptiens. Cela a suscité une réaction rapide des visiteurs, car Mohamed Sherif a égalisé à la 13e minute pour Al Ahly.
Mais cela n’a fait qu’agrandir l’envie de vaincre des locaux. L’équipe sud-africaine a alors fait le break à la 24e, sur une réalisation de Themba Zwane, passeur décisif sur le premier but du match. Alors qu’il restait cinq minutes à disputer avant la pause, Teboho Mokoena a marqué d’une frappe de loin très spectaculaire. Avec deux buts de retard en seconde période, Al Ahly s’est fait entendre. L’international sud-africain Percy Tau qui était titulaire dans le camp égyptien a marqué contre son ancienne équipe juste après l’heure de jeu. Et alors que Tau a suscité un air d’espoir dans le camp d’Al Ahly, les Sundowns ont encore frappé. Le meilleur homme des Downs depuis plus de trois saisons, Peter Shalulile a signé un doublé aux 72e et 88e minutes, scellant une partie qu’ils ont largement dominée. Avec cette victoire 5-2, Mamelodi prend la tête du Groupe avec 10 points, devant Al Hilal qui en à 9. Quant à Al Ahly, le club le plus titré de la LDC CAF avec 11 sacres est presque éliminé, ne comptant que 4 unités devant Coton Sport, dernier.
Mamelodi Sundowns marched on relentlessly as they handed Africa's 'Team of the Century' Al Ahly a comprehensive 5-2 defeat in their CAF Champions League Group B clash at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon, after leading 3-1 at the break. After this defeat, Al Ahly, the 10-time Champions League title-holders are in danger of failing to reach the knock-out stages of CAF's premier club competition. Sundowns head Group B with 10 points. Al Ahly are in third place with four points after both teams played four group matches. The outcome also meant the Egyptian giants have not been able to break their duck in South Africa and after failing to win a match over the past 22 years in Mzansi.
Who would have predicted three goals in the opening 24 minutes of play but that's what happened after both teams showed great attacking intent from the opening whistle. Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende, operating down the left flank moved into a central position as Sundowns launched an early attacking sortie out wide. Skipper Themba Zwane was approaching the opposition penalty area when the defence closed in on him but he slipped a pass to Allende, who unleased a low drive through a packed goalmouth for the opening goal (1-0).
