Mamelodi Sundowns stormed to a 5-0 victory over Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday to consolidate their lead at the top of the DStv Premiership. Haashim Domingo put the away side in front after 26 minutes, and it wasn't long before the second goal arrived to dampen the home support's mood. Three minutes later it was Neo Maema who punished the United defence by slipping the ball through for Thapelo Morena to place in the near top corner of the goal.
On the stroke of half-time the result was already put beyond reasonable doubt as a miscommunication in the United defence resulted in goalkeeper Anye Fru coming out to intercept a low cross which he missed, giving Cassius Mailula a tap in for 3-0. Masandawana were never really in any danger and simply extended their dominance into the second half by controlling possession and creating problems for the Maritzburg defence with slick passing. Domingo was once again in the thick of it in the 67th minute as he scored his second goal of the game to take the visitors four goals clear. The fifth and final goal arrived in the 76th minute when Mailula found the back of the net to complete his brace and cap off a one-sided affair.
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Derby against Golden Arrows will be his last match in charge on Friday.
Maduka, who took over during pre-season, has reportedly lost the faith of his players. In a meeting with the chairman, FARPost has gathered there were murmurs among players about the coach’s selection decisions and tactics. “The players aren’t happy. There’s a feeling that there is favouritism in the squad,” said a sourc within the club.
