An enthralling Glasgow derby at Petershill Park saw Glasgow City earn the bragging rights over Celtic thanks to a last-minute winner from captain Hayley Lauder. After a goalless first half, Lauren Davidson gave the hosts the lead from the spot before substitute Shen Menglu equalised with 14 minutes to play. City made two changes from the team which defeated Glasgow Women the previous weekend with Amy Muir and Mairead Fulton replacing Chloe Warrington and Beatriz Prades. In a tightly contested first half, the first chance fell for the away side but Caitlin Hayes couldn’t get a proper connection on the header and her effort went wide. City then started to impose themselves more on the game. First, a free-kick broke to Emily Whelan and her goal-bound shot was blocked before a corner saw a Jenna Clark shot blocked and Davidson’s follow-up was saved on the line. Davidson then attempted to turn provider by crossing for Lauder but her shot went wide of the target.

Although under pressure at the back, Celtic continued to carry an attacking threat. A corner midway through the half was nodded back across goal for Kelly Clark who was only denied the opener by a top-drawer save from Lee Gibson. Lauder then drove forward on the left before crossing the ball with Whelan and Davidson running in at the far post but Pamela Tajonar in the Celtic goal was able to deny the latter’s close range effort. A free-kick then fell for Kinga Kozak whose thunderbolt was blocked and diverted into the path of Jenna Clark who turned well and fired wide. With halftime approaching, Priscilla Chinchilla had the best chances of the first 45 to break the deadlock. First, her shot from the edge of the box was tipped onto the crossbar by the goalie before, on the counter, she fired over when through one-on-one. In between, Shen Mengyu could have put Celtic ahead but she got her shot all wrong and it curled wide. The second half quickly burst into life when Whelan was played through and Tajoner rushed out only to foul the City forward and concede the penalty. Up stepped Davidson and City’s top scorer didn’t disappoint as she converted her fifth penalty in four games. Minutes later, she had a chance for a second with an enticing free-kick from 20 yards but her effort flew wide.

A City corner saw Clare Walsh play the ball back across goal for Jenna Clark but her effort was saved before Celtic tried to break only for Clarissa Larisey to see her shot saved. Celtic’s equaliser came almost from nowhere as substitute Shen Menglu picked up the ball on the right and her cross caught out the City defence and flew into the bottom corner. A re-invigorated Celtic then had the chance to take the leade as Larisey was played through but she fluffed her lines and took a fresh air shot. With full time fast approaching, Muir picked up the ball from a throw. She broke into the box and her cut-back saw chaos ensue as Celtic couldn’t clear their lines before it fell for Lauder who placed her shot into the bottom corner and restore City’s lead. In stoppage time, Celtic did have the chance to pull level once again but Gibson produced another top save before City broke up the other end and Chinchilla was through one-on-one again but this time Tajoner pulled off the save. The ball did break for sub Abbi Grant to follow-up but her effort was deflected over by the retreating Celtic defence.
