As the Buccaneers defeated Swallows FC 1-0 in their opening match of the 2022/23 season in Orlando on the weekend, coach Jose Riviero and the team were without Vincent Pule who has been one of the influential players for the club in recent seasons. Pule, who missed the better part of the previous campaign owing to injury, made a comeback towards the end of the season with an appearance as a substitute in the CAF Confederation Cup match against Al Ahli Tripoli and was expected to be available for the season start. However, following last week’s reports of his hijacking, the 30-year-old was a notable absentee from the matchday squad against Swallows.
The winger was reportedly left traumatised after being hijacked while driving in Johannesburg on July 31.

But indications are that the Bafana Bafana player has since recovered from the ordeal and is keen on making his eagerly-awaited return in the DStv Premiership when the Bucs take on Stellenbosch FC in a midweek clash. Last season, Pule made six appearances in the league in the opening stages of the season, before he was sidelined by a long-term injury.  Riviero will have a final say on whether to include the former Bidvest Wits player in the travelling squad.
