Scotland ended a disappointing European Under-21 Championship campaign with a backs-to-the-wall draw in Denmark. It was a third consecutive away point for Scot Gemmill's side following Sunday's goalless meeting with qualifying Group I winners Belgium. Scotland opened the scoring against the run of play with the second-top Danes as Stephen Kelly fired a stunning free-kick on the stroke of half-time. But Maurits Kjaergaard's powerful reply was a thoroughly deserved equaliser. The point secures the Danes a play-off spot as they extended their own unbeaten run to four games. Scotland finish below Turkey in fourth having only won one of their eight games. Gemmill had to do without the two players who had impressed most in Belgium, with Aberdeen's Connor Barron suspended and Newcastle United's Elliot Anderson injured. They were sorely missed in central midfield as Scotland were rarely seen as an attacking force - and only the heroics of St Johnstone goalkeeper Scott Sinclair kept the Danes at bay. He touched over from Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup's curling drive and blocked twice from Gustav Isaksen as the Midtjylland midfielder looked to add to his three goals in six games and his winner when the sides met at Tynecastle in October.
