Champion de 2.Bundesliga la semaine dernière, le FC Schalke 04 évoluera donc en Bundesliga la saison prochaine. Nous aurons droit au retour du Revierderby contre le Borussia Dortmund qui donne toujours lieu à des matchs spectaculaires entre les deux ennemis jurés.  Un autre club emblématique fera son apparition en première division allemande, il s’agit du Werder de Brême qui remonte lui aussi après une saison à l’échelon inférieur. Enfin, Hambourg a perdu contrte le Hertha Berlin, barragiste, après s’être fait doubler par Stuttgart lors de la dernière journée de championnat. L’Arminia Bielefield et Greuther Fürth sont relégués.

Schalke were already guaranteed a top-two finish and a place in next season's Bundesliga, but they needed a win to secure the title. A stunning strike from Rodrigo Zalazar - a lob from inside his own half - put Schalke in front before league top-scorer Simon Terodde sealed the deal just minutes after Lukas Schleimer's late equaliser. It ensured Schalke finished two points clear of runners-up Werder Bremen, who also bounced back to the Bundesliga at the first attempt.
