Orlando Pirates claimed the Soweto derby victory once again this season after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at Orlando Stadium. Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Vincent Pule were both recalled to the Pirates line-up while Chiefs also made two alterations, with Njabulo Blom and Kearyn Baccus returning to the midfield. Lebogang Manyama had a glorious chance for Amakhosi in the 20th minute after a goal-mouth scramble inside the six-yard box, but he blasted well wide after his side his initial attempt blocked by Richard Ofori Samir Nurkovic also came close to breaking the deadlock for Gavin Hunt’s charges two minutes later after receiving a teasing diagonal cross from Reeve Frosler and unleashed a volley on his stride that missed slightly over the bar. With seven minutes left of the first stanza Frosler’s headed clearance sent Thembinkosi Lorch clear on goal and while Daniel Akepyi got a touch to the ball, he was unable to deny the Pirates attack from slotting into an empty net.

Amakhosi were offered a lifeline six minutes from the break with a penalty awarded after Ben Motshwari brought down Happy Mashiane, but Nurkovic saw his spot-kick saved by Ofori before Ngezana blazed wide with the net gaping from the rebound. There was controversy in the last 20 minutes after Pule was seemingly pulled down by Blom inside the box, but the referee was not persuaded, with the Pirates players remonstrating in disbelief that the penalty was not given. Daniel Cardoso sent the game down to the wire in the last five minutes after pulling a goal back for Amakhosi with a header at the back post after a cross by Willard Katsande. Chiefs were piling on the pressure in the dying minutes but Pirates soaked it up and held on to clinch a 2-1 win that took them up to fourth on the log.

Kaizer Chiefs ended their losing streak against Orlando Pirates after Samir Nurkovic's stunner secured a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon. Daniel Cardoso, Reeve Frosler, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Samir Nurkovic were all recalled to the Chiefs line-up while Pirates made only one alteration, with Siphesihle Ndlovu starting ahead of Fortune Makaringe as Siyabonga Mpontshane continued in goals. Bernard Parker came close to giving Amakhosi a perfect start in the third minute with a threatening strike from outside the box that missed the top corner by a whisker. Parker turned provide on 20 minutes to pick out Happy Mashiane, whose first-time shot sailed straight into the arms of Mpontshane, which proved to be the biggest opening of the half. While Pirates were unable to carve out anything, Thulani Hlatshwayo denied Chiefs a clear chance just before the break, after intercepting a through ball by Parker that looked destined Nurkovic.
