Michel was brought in to manager Sevilla to ensure that they wouldn't get sucked into the relegation race, but after his debut, it looks like the relegation race is right where they could end up. Carlos Vela scored the opener for Real Sociedad then set up another goal four minutes later to lead the home side past Sevilla and leave the visitors just three points clear of the drop zone.

It may have taken until te second half for Real Sociedad to get on the scoreboard, but it didn't taje until after the break for Vela to make clear what kind of danger he would be. He struck the post in the 13th minute to begin the Sociedad pressure that would not stop until the final whistle. Xabi Prieto and Ruben Pardo were constant threats and each almost put Sociedad in front in the first half, but it took until after the break for them to get their breakthrough. With 64 minutes gone that breakthrough came when Prieto's cross found Vela in front, who finished well to put the home side on top. Four minutes later, Vela spotted Pardo free from 20 yards and a good shot from Pardo beat Andres Palop to beat the match to bed as Sociedad cruised to victory at Estadio Anoeta.

Real Sociedad, con el mexicano Carlos Vela como estrella, amargó el debut de José Miguel Martín "Míchel" en el banquillo de un Sevilla que sigue inmerso en su mala racha de resultados y se ve superado por los donostiarras en la clasificación. Después de unos minutos de tanteo en los que el Sevilla estaba muy a gusto, llegó la gran ocasión de los locales en el primer tiempo, minuto 13, cuando el mexicano carlos Vela se adelantó a la defensa andaluza, se quedó solo ante Andrés Palop y estrelló su remate en el palo. El susto para el conjunto del Nervión fue enorme porque estuvo a punto de venírsele abajo un planteamiento de partido incómodo para la Real y todavía necesitó su equipo algún tiempo para reponerse, ya que los donostiarras siguieron llegando con cierto peligro a la meta de Palop.

El joven Rubén Pardo, a quien Michel ha comparado con Xabi Alonso, disfrutó de otra gran ocasión de gol tras una jugada de Xabi Prieto que no culminó con éxito por poco. También Agirretxe lo intentó de lejos y estuvo cerca de sorprender. El Sevilla mejoró según avanzaba el partido y de las botas de Jesús Navas surgió su mayor peligro, como en el gran pase que entregó a Álvaro Negredo, cuyo cabezazo lamió el larguero del chileno Claudio Bravo. El encuentro en la segunda parte fue de ida y vuelta, sin grandes ocasiones pero con acciones que generaban nerviosismo en el rival y la sensación de que el marcador se iba a mover en algún momento. Así fue y en el minuto 65, después de varios arreones locales, una buena conducción de Xabi Prieto llegaría a las botas de Carlos Vela que, con toda intención picando su remate, batió a Palop.La fiesta continuaría instantes después con el soberbio gol del desde fuera del área del joven Pardo, en una jugada en la que también intervino Carlos Vela.
