On Sunday, April 5, 2009, the sides again couldn't be split as an emotional final derby at Ninian Park ended in a 2-2 thriller. There was a certain amount of symmetry about this game as Nathan Dyer gave the Swans another early lead before the Bluebirds once again hauled themselves level with a Michael Chopra tap-in. But it appeared the Swans had broken Cardiff's hearts after a sweet 25-yard Joe Allen strike in the dying minutes before referee Mike Dean, who had been infamously hit on the head with a coin earlier in the match, awarded Ross McCormack an injury time penalty in front of the Canton Stand. The Scottish striker picked himself up and held his nerve to slot the spot shot home and etch his name in Ninian Park history by scoring the last ever derby goal there and securing a vital point for his team.
