It might seem strange to pick a match in which Sauzee didn't score, but the Frenchman's influence in the most famous derby result for the Easter Road side since 1973 was plain to see.
He may have failed to apprehend Colin Cameron before he scored Hearts' second but between Andy Kirk's fifth-minute opener and Cameron's consolation, the European Cup-winner strolled through the game. Hibs were devastating in midfield and attack, leaving Sauzee with very little to do but he stuck to his task superbly, breaking up attacks and spraying the ball around before enjoying an impromptu Highland jig with hat-trick hero Mixu Paatlainen.
Hibs had a quality squad for the 2000/2001 campaign and a well-balanced team, capable of turning defence into attack swiftly, with a useful mix of athleticism, footballing intelligence, energy, vision, team-work, inch perfect supply and a complementary strikeforce that thrived on the battle and on goals.
