It was Champions League heartbreak for Rangers as Dynamo Kyiv downed Philippe Clement's ten men 2-0 at Hampden to seal a 3-1 aggregate win - after a controversial red card to Jefte. Cyriel Dessers had snatched a draw in Poland and it was the home side who looked better in the early stages with Ross McCausland spurning a great chance in a tight first half. But the game turned early in the second when Jefte was shown a second yellow card after he was adjudged to have caught Oleksandr Karavaev with his arm - a decision pundits unanimously agreed was as soft as it gets.

From there Rangers rallied but the man advantage eventually yielded fruit for Dynamo. Karavaev, the villain in the eyes of many home fans, teed up Oleksandr Pikhalyonok to piledrive a great strike into the bottom corner with eight minutes to go. Hampden emptied when Nazar Voloshyn made it two moments after and the curtain fell on their hopes of making the league phase of the new Champions League.
