Sky Bet Championship
Leeds United and newly-promoted Portsmouth played out a six-goal thriller at Elland Road as Brenden Aaronson rescued a point for the hosts in stoppage time.  Elsewhere, Josh Maja bagged himself a hat-trick on the opening day, as West Bromwich Albion got off to a flyer with a 3-1 victory at Queen Park Rangers.  Watford’s Mileta Rajovic’s late goal secured a 3-2 win against Millwall on an emotional day at The Den, as tributes were paid to Lions goalkeeper Matija Sarkic who passed away in June. Oxford United’s first Championship fixture in over 25 years was a winning one thanks to goals from Mark Harris and Cameron Brannagan which secured a 2-0 triumph at the Kassam.   There were also wins for Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Stoke City on the first weekend of the campaign.

Sky Bet League One
A late Alfie May penalty was enough to earn a 1-1 draw for Birmingham City against Reading after Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan had given the Royals a lead before half-time in the live fixture on Sky Sports Football. Ben Wiles was involved in both Huddersfield Town’s goals in their success at Peterborough United, following up his 36th-minute assist for Antony Evans with a goal of his own in first-half injury time. Bryant Bilongo marked his EFL debut in style with a dramatic late winner to secure Bristol Rovers a 1-0 victory over Northampton at the Memorial Stadium. Wrexham ensured it was a winning start to life in Sky Bet League One after overcoming Wycombe Wanderers 3-2; Jack Marriott with the pick of the goals with a delightful volley just short of the half-hour mark. Also edging a five-goal thriller by the same scoreline were Lincoln City with Paudie O’Connor scoring the all-important winner for the Imps against Burton Albion with just four minutes of normal time remaining. There was a stunning long-range effort from Louie Barry as League Two champions Stockport defeated Cambridge United 2-0 at home and 2024 Play-Off Finalists Bolton Wanderers ensured they got off to a winning start after picking up a 2-1 win away at Leyton Orient. Crawley Town, Exeter City, Stevenage and Charlton Athletic were also on the winning side on matchweek one.

Sky Bet League Two
It was a milestone day for Billy Sharp as he scored his 250th league goal in English football to help Doncaster Rovers to a 4-1 victory over Accrington Stanley.  AFC Wimbledon recovered from a disastrous start - in which they conceded twice within the first 10 minutes - to beat Colchester United 4-2 at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. Gillingham ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at home to Carlisle United and Bromley made the dream start to their time in the EFL with a 2-0 win at Harrogate Town. Elsewhere, there were wins for Barrow, Cheltenham Town, Fleetwood Town, Bradford City, Port Vale and Walsall.
