Son père aura marqué à vie l’histoire de Manchester United, Darren Ferguson, fils de Sir Alex, fait déjà partie de celle de Peterborough United. Vainqueur ce week-end de l’EFL Trophy face à Wycombe (2-1), le coach était le nom le plus connu sur la feuille de match de cette finale. Les trois buts auront été inscrits dans les cinq dernières minutes et c’est un doublé de Harrison Burrows qui a permis à Peterborough de remporter l’EFL Trophy, dix ans après le premier, déjà sous les ordres du fiston Ferguson.
Peterborough United triumphed over Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley amid a remarkable finale to secure their second Bristol Street Motors Trophy success. Three goals in six late, chaotic-filled minutes of the game saw Posh lead before Wycome replied, only for Darren Ferguson's men to seal a 2-1 win in added time with Harrison Burrows' second of the game. A match of few chances and little drama sprung into life in the 85th minute when Burrows laced past Franco Ravizolli.
The Chairboys responded with Dale Taylor's sweetly struck volley in the 89th minute, but Burrows had the final say two minutes later when his cross looped over Ravizzoli and into the net. It capped a whirlwind finish to the game that had seen the euphoria seesaw around Wembley Stadium. The Posh continue their perfect record at the National Stadium, now having won in all four of their visits to Wembley, and it signals double success in this competition for Ferguson, who led the Cambridgeshire side to the title in 2014. For Wycombe Wanderers, this is a second successive defeat at Wembley, following their Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final defeat by Sunderland here in 2022.
