The Women's Super League returned from the international break with drama on the agenda. Reigning champions Chelsea lead the league as they stretched their unbeaten run to five games following their dismantling of struggling Aston Villa on Saturday. Behind Chelsea, the competition remains fierce. Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool sit level on 10 points each, while Manchester United remained within four points of the top courtesy of another late Rachel Williams rescue mission deep into stoppage time. Meanwhile, Bristol City Women recorded their first win of the season in a five-goal thriller against West Ham to lift them out of the relegation spot.

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor has accused Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall of "bullying" the fourth official during their Women's Super League match, which The Gunners won 2-1 at Meadow Park to end City's unbeaten start to the WSL season. Taylor and Eidevall clashed in the technical areas numerous times throughout the game as tempers flared, with the City boss claiming that he was "protecting" Melissa Burgin, the fourth official, from his opposite number. Commenting on the result, Taylor said: "I think everyone who saw that game could see we should have won. We are feeling a little bit robbed."With the narrow victory, Eidevall's Arsenal pulled themselves level on points with Taylor's City. Four sides, ranging from City in second to Arsenal in fifth, are tied on 10 points.

The U.S. Soccer Federation's board of directors has approved the hiring of Chelsea manager Emma Hayes as the new head coach of the U.S. women's national team, a source with knowledge of the vote confirmed on Saturday. A  formal announcement of her hiring as Vlatko Andonovski's replacement is set to follow. Sources also confirmed that Hayes' contract will be a record for women's soccer. A source confirmed that making Hayes' salary equal to that of U.S. men's national team manager Gregg Berhalter was going to be discussed at the board meeting. Hayes is widely viewed as one of the top managers in the women's game.

The USWNT has been coached on an interim basis by Twila Kilgore since Andonovski departed the role after the team recorded its earliest exit at the Women's World Cup, with a round of 16 defeat to Sweden.Hayes is to leave Chelsea at the end of the Women's Super League (WSL) season "to pursue a new opportunity outside the WSL and club football," the club announced in a statement following a 6-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on Saturday. The expectation is that Hayes will juggle the USWNT and Chelsea jobs until the conclusion of the WSL season. While the plan is for Hayes to join the USWNT during international windows, there are potential conflicts.
