The U.S. women’s national team got one last reminder that the World Cup won’t be anything close to easy. Literally hours before departing for New Zealand, the USWNT made hard work of Wales, eventually emerging 2-0 victors thanks to Trinity Rodman’s late brace. Vlatko Andonovski’s lineup may not have been the on-paper starting 11 expected for the team’s July 22 World Cup opener against Vietnam, but it was close. The exceptions? Alyssa Thompson got the nod on the left wing, a spot that seems to be up for grabs, with Trinity Rodman and Lynn Williams both seen as candidates to start at the World Cup. With Rose Lavelle having been out for nearly three months at this point, Ashley Sanchez started as the team’s No. 10.
