The Portland Thorns opened their 2022 campaign with a 1-1 battle on the road at OL Reign, the return for the Reign to their Seattle home of Lumen Field. It was the first game for both teams in the 2022 Challenge Cup, an out-of-season NWSL tournament that the Thorns won last season. The environment in front of 7,343 fans under the lights in an NFL stadium stood out to players and coaches for Portland. Portland and OL Reign finished out the match without another score and each came away with a point in the Challenge Cup Group B standings.
