Mamelodi Sundowns kept rolling through their Premiership campaign with little issue on Tuesday, defeating TS Galaxy 2-1 on the road in Nelspruit. The Brazilians stretched their record league winning streak to thirteen games with the victory and their lead at the top of the table to nineteen points with the result. With the 2022-23 CAF Champions League group stage approaching the reigning South African champions will be able to turn their focus towards achieving continental glory with the league all but settled at this point.

TS Galaxy were competitive for stretches of the match but a poor start doomed the Rockets to defeat. Sundowns’ strong start led to the opener in the 11th minute when center back Rushine De Reuck scored from a strong header off a corner kick delivered by Uruguayan playmaker Gastón Sirino. De Reuck went down with a concerning head injury before being taken off after five minutes of treatment. After the match Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena said that De Reuck regained consciousness and fortunately did not require a visit to the hospital. The hosts attempted to play their way back into the match and created a couple of threatening attacks but failed to put a shot on Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango’s goal before halftime. After the break the champions regained their dominance and doubled the lead in the 64th minute. A skilled team passing buildup led to Sipho Mbule feeding a through ball to Sirino whose low cross set up Peter Shalulile’s eventual finish following a goal mouth scramble. Djakaridja Traoré got one back from the penalty spot in stoppage time for Galaxy but it was too little too late.
