For the Phoenix, it's a huge win, and their first on the road. They'll take huge confidence from the way they defended throughout, with Tim Payne and Scott Wootton both excellent, while Alex Rufer and Clayton Lewis were strong in midfield, David Ball tireless and Oskar Zawada providing a strong focal point up front. A win like this can galvanise a team, and they'll no doubt hope to use it to build some momentum to start 2023.

Sydney will no doubt be disappointed not to come away with anything, but they really didn't deserve to. They were second best for much of the game, offered very little creativity going forward and were mostly reliant on aerial balls into the area. Max Burgess and Robert Mak tried their best to find openings, but they were largely unsupported, with Adam Le Fondre below his best even before the two penalties, and Rhyan Grant and Diego Caballo only offering support going forward in fits and starts. They've yet to notch consecutive wins this season, and remain outside the top six.
