Glory were unable to get the better of Liberty A-League champions Melbourne Victory at Macedonia Park on Sunday, with Melina Ayres scoring twice in a 3-0 win for the navy-and-whites. The Australia Under-20 striker fired her side into the lead midway through the first half after turning cleverly in the box and added a second just short of the hour-mark after the Glory defence had been unable to clear a Beattie Goad corner. By that time, the hosts had been reduced to ten players with Sarah Cain receiving a second yellow card and Victory went on to make the game safe late in the piece when Alex Chidiac scored directly from a corner. Glory created a number of decent opportunities themselves, however, notably a header from skipper Natasha Rigby which was cleared off the line and a second-half shot from Cyera Hintzen which flashed centimetres wide. And Head Coach Alex Epakis was certainly full of praise for the character his charges showed in front of a 700-strong crowd.
