After beating Nigeria by the same score on Thursday, 11th-ranked Nadeshiko Japan dominated the 22th-ranked visitors, with well-taken goals on either side of the interval making it a comfortable afternoon for the hosts at rainy Nagano U Stadium. Japan showed some intricate passing in the opposing half before finally taking the lead in the 44th minute following a move launched by Miyazawa down the left. The midfielder passed diagonally to Jun Endo, who played a quick one-two with lone forward Ueki before releasing Miyazawa with a clever back-heel. From a tight angle, Miyazawa sent a low strike that went in off the far post. New Zealand threatened from a corner four minutes into the second half but failed to capitalize before Ueki got on the scoresheet in the 61st minute, when she rose high to head home Fuka Nagano's cross from the left. Eighteen-year-old Aoba Fujino, who had two good efforts in the first half, flashed a shot wide from the edge of the box, while 17-year-old Shinomi Koyama came on with eight minutes left to make her debut. Captain Saki Kumagai hit the bar from a corner late on.
