The Citizens were unchanged, as Khanyisa Mayo and Darwin Gonzalez were on either side of Wayde Lekay upfront while Sekhukhune were bolstered by the return of experienced players, Edwin Gyimah, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya. City were forceful in the early stages as Fidele Ambina came close to opening the scoring on 17 minutes with a cracking strike from just outside the box that flashed narrowly wide. As Sekhukhune pushed further high the pitch, Eric Tinkler's charges should have been ahead on the half-hour mark after a bad headed pass sent Tahir Goedeman clear on goal but he fired a low shot off the bottom post. The game continued to open up deep in the first stanza but clear openings remained elusive, with the likes of Mabasa and Siyabulela Shai threatening for Babina Noko. The visitors shaded the early exchanges of the second stanza, as Victor Letsoalo came close to breaking the deadlock with a strike in the six-yard box that missed narrowly wide.

With City yet to get into their rhythm, Nyiko Mobbie also had a chance for Kaitano Tembo's troops on 65 minutes with a powerful dipping volley that forced goalkeeper Darren Keet into a fine save.
The hosts eventually got going again in the last quarter of an hour as Mayo had a big chance after a cut-back by Kajally Drammeh in the box but he ballooned his shot over the crossbar. With the hosts pushing for a winning goal, Tinkler refreshed his team with a triple change just after that as Thabo Nodada, Craig Martin and Marc Van Heerden entered the fray. The game was there for the taking towards the end, with either side looking to steal all the three points but chances were hard to come by, with Nunez going closest with a wayward strike from just inside the box as the encounter finished goalless.
