Tottenham n’avance plus. Défaits à Liverpool (3-2) lors la 29e journée de Premier League, les hommes d’André Villas-Boas n’ont guère fait mieux, dimanche, dans leur White Hart Lane face à Fulham (0-1). Les Cottagers, écrasés à l’aller par ces mêmes Spurs à Craven Cottage (0-3), se seront payé une revanche bien dégueulasse. Dégueulasse, d’abord parce qu’elle intervient contre le cours du jeu. Dans un derby londonien plutôt terne, mais dominé malgré tout par Tottenham, c’est sur l’un de leurs deux seuls tirs cadrés du match que la bande à Martin Jol a trouvé la faille. Dégueulasse, aussi, parce que c’est un ancien de la maison qui aura assommé les Spurs : Dimitar Berbatov, après 52 minutes de jeu, sur un beau service de l’Iranien Ashkan Dejagah. Tottenham voit revenir Arsenal, victorieux samedi à Swansea (0-2), à 4 points et pourrait même quitter le podium en cas de victoire de Chelsea, ce dimanche, face à West Ham.

Gareth Bale had an early Spurs header cleared off the line by defender Sascha Riether but the home side looked jaded. Berbatov struck when he slotted in a low Riether cross before team-mate Brede Hangeland headed just wide. Spurs' Jermain Defoe had a close-range shot brilliantly saved by Mark Schwarzer late on as Fulham held on. Berbatov did not celebrate his winner against his former employers, although Tottenham's rivals for a top four spot, Arsenal and Everton, who both won on Saturday and have a game in hand, will be overjoyed. Spurs now lead north London neighbours Arsenal by just four points and are six ahead of the Toffees in the chase for a Champions League spot for next season.. The victory was Fulham's first in 10 games at White Hart Lane since 2003 and will raise fears among Spurs fans over the kind of collapse they suffered towards the end of last season, which ultimately cost them a Champions League place.
